Tech: Neverwinter Nights reading processor speed wrong, also extremely slow game play

NOTE: I posted this tech question on a heading under another topic then realized that it was an older heading. Sorry if this caused confusion.

Hey,

I'm having a problem with neverwinter nights running/loading/ and slow running when I'm playing (or trying to) I do not play this game online. The game took 23 minutes to load a saved game.

I have the following specs on my computer
Processor: Pentium 4 2.54
Video Card: 256 meg Raedon 9250
Memory: 1 gig
DirectX Version: 9.0c

I only use the original cd for this game since I'm trying to figure out how to play it, I just bought it. I can't find any help pertaining to this on any other site that helps. The following is from a report when I click the configure/change/scan/report.

[OS]
OS=Windows XP v5.1 build 2600 Service Pack 2
Result=2
Skip=0
[Processor]
Type=Intel Pentium 4
Vendor=Intel
NumCPUs=1
Speed=-1801
Result=0
Skip=0
[RAM]
RAM=1023
Result=2
Skip=0
[Video Card]
Type=RADEON 9250
VRAM=512
Desktop Resolution=1024x768
Desktop Color Depth=32
Result=2
Skip=0
[Open GL]
OpenGL Installed=1
OpenGL Version=1.3.5014 WinXP Release
Result=2
Skip=0
[Direct X]
DirectX Installed=1
DirectX Version=DirectX (8+) (4.09.00.0904)
DirectX Build=4.09.00.0904
Result=2

Please notice that it reads my processor speed at negative 1800 (-1800)

I also get the following statement:

The system does not meet the minimum processor speed requirements. You will most likely have performance problems running the game, which can be reduced by lowering detail settings in the nwconfig program.

I meet all of the system requirements. Is there an error in the game?
I have ran every patch available all the way to the beta with no improvement. Thank you in advance for any help.

Firstly your in the wrong forum buddy ;) (mabey general gaming probs will serve you better and weild more results). Am i correct in asuming you are not using a crack for this game ?. (your running it from your original disk?). Your PC superceeds the required specs as im sure you know. What drivers are you using for your GPU ? (newest?). Have you any other games installed that play ok or is this the only game installed @ the moment ?. Are you running your rig with on-board sound ? (this can "sometimes" effect game performance big time but not to the extent it takes 23 mins to load a saved game :p . What size is your HDD and do you/have you defragged recently ?. You could D/L a free utill called "free mem" to check your 1G of memory isnt knacked and is working correctly. (google will find it). Mind you many of the above questions can be answerd if you have any other high spec demanding games on your PC that run OK. Have you recently bought a new CPU ? Is it reconised in DirectX as a Pentium 4 2.54 ?. The official game tech support will be able to help you with this. (send them DirectX readings). Have you looked on the official sites tech support forum to see if there are others experiencing the same probs as yourself and if so there may be a solution. (Im sorry if you think i have stated the obvious in my above text but obviously i dont know your understanding level so i have tried to keep it simple). If you are able to answer my questions (and add anything else you think relevent) then we may be able to help you but i strongly suggest you use the official game tech support if your running this game from original disk without using a crack.

sorry for mis-posting this one, but since you already asked me something, I should at least answer it.

Ok, I am not using a crack or fixxed .exe, I am trying this one straight from the original.

All other games work perfectlly, no probs with them.

The only thing that I agree with you is that the soundcard is in fact a on board one. I never thought it mattered much whether it is on board or any other type.

Also I defrag every day with a program Diskeeper, I turned it off while I tried to see if that was the issue.

I have 760 or so free memory after I check it with a mem checker. CPU is about three years old, I bought it in 12-2002,

I've upgraded everything except the sound and processor. My directx recognizes it as it is.

I tried contacting the game's tech support, but have yet to receive a reply. I thought this way would be faster, Thank you for responding. I am computer savvy, so don't worry :D

Yes on board sound can can have a massive effect on the way a game runs etc. As you are probarly aware on board sound runs in "software" mode which is no good thing as it eats valuable recorces up gobbly gobbly. You can always try the following. (this is also suggested for people with sound and performance problems and doom 3). Run DirectX and go into the sound tab. There you will be able to reduce the sound acceleration level. Slide it down the slider to the beggining and run the game. If this helps with your problem (you will still have sound so dont worry) you can knock it up 1 point each time and find where the performance is acceptable. (just remember to put it back to the original point when you have finished with said game).

I have on board sound (look @ my sig) and the only game i have had any problem relating to what you described was with "Vampire the masquerade Bloodline" and doing the above fixed this problem. I have run much more demanding games (spec wise) like Half life 2,Doom 3,Swat 4 etc etc with no probs but Vampire gave me nothing but trouble until i reduced the sound acceleration level. I take it you have the new onboard sound drivers downloaded and installed for your MOBO ? Hope the above helps.
