Some psx questions...

Hello guys! This is my first post here, and I have some questions to ask:

1. A friend has a modded pal psone, which has some kinda strange benavior.
It can't read original psx disks, only back-ups, and again to boot a backup from another region, you need a bootdsik or x-ploder 9000 in order to boot it! Do you think that it might be a problematic modchip? I don't know which one it has.

2. I have made a backup copy of the ntsc version of Final Fantasy IX. I discovered that the first disc had some problems with the FMVs. I don't know if the same is happening with the other 3 discs. Do you know a way that I can check this, because it will take me a long time until I reach that point in the game where I have to swap discs...

Thank you for your attention! :)

Good modchips don't behave that way if they are installed correctly.

If i remember correctly the FF series is modchip protected as well. If your modchip is working correctly you should be able to load originals as well as backups.

Final Fantasy 9 will not play normally as a backup. the protection is in the opening FMV on the first disc. the other discs don't have any protection. might as well play with the original ff9 discs, it'll save you a lot of problems. and taking good care of originals will prevent any damage to the discs, so no need for backups.

Well, that's the same thing I thought, that the chip might have been installed wrong, but I saw another psone, modded by another person (who I think is a very qualified mod-chip installer) doing the same thing. So I think that it might be that the specific modchip has this problem...

Are you sure about this? In the first disc I have noticed that the copy protection works in the other FMVs of the game, as well during the normal game during loading times, when moving from one place to another ( this is what happens in the PAL version, I don't know if this happens in the US version too).

Thank you although for your answers! :)
