Trouble with Region-x disk
Hi there, had my chipped PS2(NEO 2.2) & Region-X disk for 3 weeks now, & everything was OK until last night. Before when I inserted RegionX disk & pressed reset the disk booted straight up without going to the PS2 browser/configuration screen. Now whenever I boot any disk (PS2 original/PS1 original/PS1 backup/DVD video) my console boots to the browser screen, pauses for about 20 seconds & then boots the disk. The RegionX disk won't boot at all & so I can't play any PS2 backups.I've been told that the PS2 doesn't recognise the RegionX disk from the browser screen & it has to be booted straight from standby but like I said no disks will boot up straight from standby without going to the PS2 browser screen. Just wondering if anybodys had anything similar happen. The PS2 & chip are under guarantee but I don't know if the problems with the hardware or the RegionX disk. Any helpful replies would be appreciated.

M8,
Have you got the correct booting methods??? Check out www.psxcopyworld.co.uk on there you will find my booting methods, i have the same spec as you and have no problems. I also reset my PS2 with the REGION X already inserted b4 playing another PS2 backup. EA Games i have to power off for 5 secs and then hold reset, its all explained on the web addy. If that does not work, it could be a hardware thing, what version of the REGION X do u have??? Cheers Dal |
Maybe I shouldn't make you jealous! But the OrigaChip (www.madeiragames.com) in conjunction with DVD Region-X has none of the NEO2.2 boot complications for EA games. You just boot DVDR-X, eject when the numbers come up, whack in the EA backup, hit START and it boots.
What bothers me about this problem is that PS2 originals don't boot directly. I am surprised to see the game then boot from the browser. Are these DVD games? |
Just checked out your info on psxcopyworld & I've been booting mine differently.Holding reset until the flashing blue light comes on for non-EA stuff & the green light for EA games. This loads RegionX & then opens the tray for 5 seconds for the disk swap.I've had no problems with this method(instructions for this method came with my console)
The regionX I've got is the new one (just the disk) & I.m starting to think It's damaged with doing the quick disk swap so often! The odd thing is that before all my other disks(PS1 backups & PS2 originals) booted straight up from reset & now the PS2 browser screen comes on instead before they load.IS this normal for a chipped machine?ie should they boot straight up or not? |
The Browser screen appears if it fails to see a boot disk. From what you describe, it does eventually see the boot disk. You might want to open the PS2 and look at the chip installation to see if, say, PIN #4 is intermittent. This is not really in my bailiwick but if it's not your CDs then it has to be something else associated with the boot process; a modchip perhaps.
Woodmaster101 posted these oinouts for NEO2.2: PIN #1 = supplies + (power) to the chip PIN #2 = sends SCE signal out to PS 2 PIN #3 = PS 2 drive tray pulse tells the BA5810FP chip whether to expect a drive tray open or close PIN #4 = checks/signals RESET button on the PS 2 PIN #5 = closes PS 2 drive tray PIN #6 = opens PS 2 drive tray PIN #7 = checks if game CD is PSX/PS 2 (If PS 2, immediately stops SCE signal & restarts when a "tray close" is seen. If PSX, it stops after about 15-20 seconds) PIN #8 = supplies ground to the chip |
