GT4 Backup

I have made a backup copy of Granturismo 4 on a dual layer DVD and whenI try to play it the Playstation 2 screen appears, then the copyright screen and it stops on a blank screen.
I have a modchipped PS2 version 8. Not sure what mod chip but it works on every other game.
I copied it with dvd decrypter and nero6 and the disc's do the same. nero left some of the disc unburnt and dvd decrypter burnt the entire disc when the close command was selected.

My suspicion is the media. I used Verbatim DVD+R DL disc's.

Argh! Dude, this is stated all over these forums. The post is probably only a few posts down! It can't be done... yet.

This is due to PTP write strategies used on the second layer - DL media is OTP. Until the Toxic team appear with their patcher (if they ever do - providing it isn't all hype) then you'll just have to use your original...

Believe me, when someone comes up with a backup solution it will be posted on the front page of every forum in the PS2 scene. Until then we have to be patient and use the original.

no there is nothin wrong with ur media. the problem is that u cant copy in ptp only otp so ur ps2 is readin the second layer in reverse if u can figure out a way to reverse all the files for the second layer it should work! :D i dont think anyone one has tried this thoery? but give it a go.

lufcfan 22-03-2005 23:15

I think you'll find you can't write PTP on OTP media

bodbod 22-03-2005 23:55

im not sayin 2 write in ptp im sayin 2 write in otp this is why u must revers the order of the second layer 2 b burnt!

Thanks to all for your responses.

I'm not sure but I believe that it has nothing to do with OTP or PTP, since it's data written on disk. There's (probably) a flag written during Lead-in that informs the drive that the disc is PTP written or OTP written, so as to know how to make the transition between layers...

Anyway, in ISObuster I see that there are two file systems. 1 is UDF and 1 is ISO and there are identical files in both systems. Some only have a difference of few bytes. Maybe if we can extract the files and then author again the disc with Gear Pro (where you can set manually the offset of each file) or another utility that does the same thing.

These are my thoughts, of course, which might be totally wrong of course.

lufcfan 23-03-2005 15:15

It is the PTP and OTP which is causing this, beat no bones about that... :)

Mate, No offence but professional crackers that know the ps2 inside out haven't been able to sort it yet so the chances of you doing it are pretty much zero.

As someone said before, when it's cracked we'l all know.

lufcfan 25-03-2005 07:11

True. :)
And they'll all want to be the first, so you can bet it won't be too long as they'll all be working on it like crazy...

Due to the fact that GT4 cannot be backed-up (up to now) and that this must be the most wanted game of all times in PS2, I believe that this game must be the biggest commercial hit ever. Every person on the planet playing GT4 is using an original game!

Imagine the profits for Polyphony Digital and SONY and to tell you the truth Polyphony worths it! They developed a great game which is endless and the graphics are fantastic! Reflections on the car, shadows, fantastic landscapes and my favourite car ever included (DMC De Lelorean)!!!

And i don't like racing games! Only Gran Turismo, since the days of GT1!

Well I for one hate pirates mate. All backups I GENUINELY own the original of and if you don't (As the above can be taken to suggest) then you really shouldn't be posting it on a public forum.

It's only gonna be a matter of time before games companies go bust due to the fact noone's paying for the game and instead is simply feeling they have the right to STEAL somebody elses work. I work in the IT industry and I appreciate just how much effort goes into these things.

Support the developer, buy the game. If you're not sure if it's worth it just bloody rent it.

lufcfan 25-03-2005 10:12

Here here.
I usually get all my games pre-owned etc so they are much cheaper. The odd one I'll buy from new, i.e: GT4 which I got Wednesday (cool game btw) and the Grand Theft Auto series etc...
