PS2 Laser Replacing
Hi All. Am having trouble with a Version 5 laser replacement. Have replaced lasers before no problems but this one proving to be dificult.
Have fitted it but the laser is not willing to read dvd's. Tried adjusting the azimuth with the white cog with a little bit of sucess i.e it would read dvd's sometimes when it felt like it. I usually just drop the new laser in and it reads anything no problems. Can anyone suggest anything please. Regards :) |

Otto do you have a multimeter to check the pots with?? You probably got a laser that isnt set correctly.

The replacement i got was a khs-400r. Looks identical to the one that was fitted before. I have adjusted the white cog from lowest extreme to highest extreme. somewhere in the middle it does start to read dvd roms intermittently (i.e will start to boot them but gives up half way through and goes back to browser screen).
I have a multimeter so will check the pots. They aren't labeled up on this laser though. Which one is cd and dvd. From what i can see instead of the pots being next to each other they are one above the other. Regards and thanx for the replies |
Ok. Have measured pot resistances. Not sure which is which but if I look at the pots with laser head connector at the top then the higher pot measures 1050 ohms and the lower one is 816 ohms. How does that sound?

Ottoman, this is posted on Shadowknyghts site, http://www.cyber-mag.com. At the bottom he's got some settings posted that are not exact but it should be somewhere in the general area. Its possible to burn up the laser on power up if the settings are to low which may be whats happened.
In General original settings can be around: V3 stations - CD = 1080 to 1260, DVD = 800 to 1300 V4 stations - CD = 850 to 900, DVD = 1200 to 1400 V5 stations - CD = 1200, DVD = 1400 V7 stations - CD = 1200, DVD = 1100 to 1400 |
so it would appear that the laser I've been supplied with has excessively low settings on the pots. Sounds like a recon rather than a new one! O.K. Will stop jerking off trying to get it working and get back to the supplier. Many thanx for the help. Will let you know how all turns out.
Thanx again!! :) P.S Supplier is www.ps2laser.co.uk . Anyone used these guys before? |

I also read that khs 400c was in version 5's. Can i replace the r-type with the c-type or am i stuck with using the r-type as that was what was originally fitted?
Regards :) |
Hi again. Have just got replacement KHS 400R laser. Resistance measurements now read 1157ohms for CD pot and 1068Ohms for DVD pot. Does this sound a bit more normal?
Also have noticed that despite the fact that this is meant to be a type R laser its different to the other Type R i got. On the first one the pots were above each other and neither were labeled. On this new one they are next to each other and the dvd pot is labelled. They both loow exactly the same apart from that. Is this normal? Regards :D ps now 10pm and laser is fitted a working perfectly. Last time I say to a m8 "I can fix that" when he complains of games skipping!! |
lol
