Ripping a "Compressed" Disc

Hello,

I was recently informed that I could not back up my copy of my PS2 Boot Disc - specifically, SwapMagicv3.3. I was told that becaue the disk was "Compressed", it would not be able to be successfully burned.

Now that finally got a spindle of blank DVD-R's, I figured, "What's one DVD-R to find out for myself?"

Now I usually use DVD Decrypter to READ a PS2 game or DVD movie and then I use Alcohol 120% to actually burn it.

While using each program to try and read my SwapMagic disc, I received disc read errors.

Any thoughts on a way around this? Also, please talk down to me... I am a fool ;)

Thanks!

Its not worth backing up or even trying. Can you let me know why you would even want to?

Hello,

Thanks for the response! Unfortunately, it's not the answer I was hoping to hear.... :(

You see, I have a PS2 with a FlipTop. I when I purchased the FlipTop, I got two SwapMagic Discs - one for CD based games and one for DVD based games.

Well, now that I just got a 50pack of DVD-R's, I want to backup everything - including my actual boot discs. I noticed that the actual written side of the SM DVD looks strange.

Anyway, if I can't back up this disc because it's compressed, why don't PC game manufacturers as well as console disc manufacturers just use this method to prevent piracy? Just a thought anyway...

Thanks!

BTW its not because its a "compressed disc" its because its a "pressed disc".

To make a long story short the reason you need a swap magic disc is the same reason it wont boot when using a backup of one. The swap magic discs contain the pressed data that cant be copied with a normal cd or dvd burner.

Ahh... I think that at least leaves me feeling a bit better in regards to all this. "Pressed" disc you say? Hah - I'm an idiot! :D

Anyway, thanks for the help Tyler! I appreciate it. I guess I'll just have to be really careful with my SM discs. Like I said, I just wanted a backup for safekeeping but it's not critical.

Thanks again man! :)
