CD and DVD missing?
 

Hmmm...Don't know if I'm posting this thread in the right place, but anyway... A week or so ago, my CD-burner and DVDrom reader went missing. I can't find them on "My computer" and all the drivers are gone. I can open them physically, and I can hear the driver read the content of a cd/dvd , but I have no way of opening/burning/reading a cd.

So now I'm a little confused. I used ad-aware, spybot search&destroy and Norton antivirus (+norton internet security) 2004. They're all up-to-date, and they didn't find anything.

I also tried to switching the IDE-cables, removing the powercables, removing the drives and putting them back in, without any result. I would format the computer, but I don't know if I'll be able to re-install windows and the other stuff, as I don't know if the drivers will work.

I'm really stuck, I don't know what to do. The computer is fairly new, running on Windows Xp. I've never had any problem with it until now. I would be so grateful for any help...so please... HELP!!

my friend has the same prob man.it works but on windows you can't make use of it at all.
try to connect only one cd/dvd and see if it works.
