contemplating to buy or not, is it v7?

i got a v12, no hdd support so thats a bummer. been looking around for old model os ps2 and came across 3 used scph39001, i think thats the v7 correct? i have a hdd from my previous ps2 that went kaputz, so i'm contemplating whether to buy the used one if its really a v7 since they are supposed to be the best version of ps2. And since its used i don't want to put too much strain on the laser lens, so i'm thinking of getting a mod chipthat allow booting from the mem card itself. Need advice on ehether an MI or CC is best for v7? Thanks in advance for any reply.

Both the CC and MI are excellent chips. You cant go wrong purchasing either. I think the CC is a couple of bucks cheaper if that matters

Yes, it's a v7, but be careful. I heard some people have fake v7s where they just replace the stickers so that it just looks like 1 v7.

Yeah that is what I'm afraid of too when buying used, any way to test it to see if its the real thing?

well, you could fire it up, when it gets to Browser and System Configuration, hilight 'System Configuration' and hit Triangle. On there, will be the SCPH code from the motherboard = can't change that :)

No problems - you can't go wrong with V7s - I have one and love it to bits :D
