SATA HDD Install Problem

Hey, I am building a system for a buddy but im having problem installing the hard drive. The system is an AMD 64 3400+ on a Asus K8V-X mobo. it has onboard SATA. the HDD is a western digital 160GB SATA. I have everything hooked up and it recognizes the HSS in the bios, but under primary master IDE it says not installed. however in boot sequence it says the HDD via SATA or something like that. When I start to install windows 2000 it comes back with the error message that no hard drive is attached. I also tried to install a secondary RAID / SCSI driver and it dosent make a different. SATA is enabled in the bios and I cant figure out whats wrong. any ideas?

I tried installing by hitting <F6> right at the start of installing. The file I tried was the 'SIIG Serial ATA Controller Card Driver' and it didnt do anything. It still didnt detect it. There is also a file called 'WD Serial ATA RAID Controller Card Driver' that I havent tried yet... think thats probally the right one?

Had EXACT same problem.
In win setup press f6 and then install both win2000 sata and raid drivers from the mobo cd.
You will need to use make disk utility to write them to flopppy discs.
Good Luck.

F6 and drivers for SATA

If I remember right there is this same problem with Windows 2000 and a fresh install. If you wait for the F6 to come up in installing Win 2000 it is already to late. Win 2000 will not install the driver for the drive. What you need to do is as soon as you get a splash screen of the Windows install and before it even says that is inspecting you machine, start hitting the F6 key until windows 2000 comes up and says unable to load drive. Do you want to install a driver. Here is where you install the drivers.

This has been a known problem with MS 2000. Hope it helps.
