Static shocked my controller
Dang it. I think my controller is wasted. It's winter and thus static season inside the house. I picked up my ps2 contrller and static zapped it. Now when I plug in controller it gives the signal for start button and then endlessly presses up on the direction pad. Of course this is without me pressing any buttons. It does it the instant you plug it in and continues endlessly until you unplug it. Anybody else ever had this happen?

No, lol.
I can't say I have. Do you have any spare controllers? |
Yes I have an extra one-just more annoying than anything to loose a controller this way. Well at least static didn't fry my modchip out. Thank goodness for that! :D

Thank heaven for small mercies, lol ;)

I'm having sort of the same problem but I didn't completely toast mine.. it has intermittent probs.. I dunno if an ESD would actually penetrate.. hehe.. penetrate.. uh.. I don't think it would make it through the plastic? I could be wrong.. Have you done anything else weird with that controller?.. Like.. Stir koolaide with it.. Anything rattling around in there? and is the plug portion clean and free of dust and shtuff like that?

I'm not sure if its static thats caused it.
Mine is a bit screwed after all its over 4 year old, and for some reason like say for a racing game, if i crash the camera changes its view, and pro evo soccer sametimes if i pause the game, the d-pad goes crazy, and endlessly scrolls throught the options, oh and once it kept on vibrating even in the PS2 browser, but i fixed that by opening it and fiddling around. Oh and the same pad has PRO EVO Syndrome, where the R1 button gets stuck in the pads casing because its held down so much, as its for the dash button. If you ask me its down to general wear and tear in my case....theve been dropped on wood flooring aswell, which is why i have 5 pads. |

Well I was just playing it a few minutes before it shocked and the controller was fine. I turned off the system and then decided I would play a bit more. The static shock went thru the small gap around the edges of the start button as that's where my finger was when I picked it up. Fairly direct zap to the internals of the controller.
