In need of a lens cleaner...
 

My V7's been getting slightly slower during load times, and I wondered if the lens might need a little cleaning (kept the console under a towel when unused, but never cleaned the lens since the day I bought it.)

Since I don't trust myself enough to open the PS2 and clean the lens by hand, I 'd like some recommendations on which brand of lens cleaners are safest to use. That said, should I do anything about it (use lens cleaner), since the PS2 still works relatively well?

Also, I need to verify this rumor: will lens cleaners ruin the lens by brushing against it? A lot of people insist it's true, which made me decide against periodically using such products on my PS2.

Well, lets put it this way, I've used laser lense cleaners in my PS2s for years and no harm has come to them yet. I think a lot of people believe it's true due to Sony making that excuse some years back about it's lasers - so people believe it.

IMHO it's all b*llocks ;)

I guess that's the same case with the stories some years back saying that watching TV with the lights off will ruin your eyes. If anything, it's now been proven that wathing TV in the dark will actually reduce eye strain....
