since my ps2 is already modded, is there any reason for me to do the whole exploit thing?

Don't stink so.

Depends on what modchip you have you don't need an exploit.
If you have one from DMS, Matrix Infinity or Crystal Chip, you can run it from your chip. Otherwise you need an exploit on your Memory Card like PS2 menu-k, LaunchELF or PS2 Keylauncher.

What is the purpose of the exploit?..
Weren't exploits used to get around using a mod?

You don't really need an exploit, they are just to get homebrew dev started from the MC. Like emulators and ps2 mp3 players. So you don't need all the CD swapping and your laser wouldn't die that fast.
