Couple of questions :-)
 

Okay, I had my PS1 modded a long time ago by someone else. I've recently bought a PS2 (USA - refurbed - v7), and I've been looking to mod it myself. There's tons of info out there. Almost too much to absorb. So I'm coming here :-) Could you guys be kind enough to answer soom questions?

1) I suppose the best mod chip out there, by some comments I've read, is the Matrix Infinity. Which version do I need to get (MATRIX MXL2, MATRIX MX4 or MATRIX INFINITY)???? Does anyone have a good site to purchase from for the USA market (considering price as well)?

2) What's the deal with installing a HD in the PSX? Why would I do this? Is it to save games to the HD instead of a memory card? Is it to transfer the entire game to the HD for faster load times? Is there a good online reference to read for reasons/install etc...?

3) Can someone point me to a good online reference/tutorials for -> burning PS2 games (including how to extract the unique online ID from a disk), burning PS1 games? Can you play these games online if you extract the online ID from an original PS2 disk?

4) I have a DVD player, but I would like to possibly use the PS2 to play Divx movies downloaded from the internet. Can I play these type of movies on the PS2? How (ie. what software do I need)? Tutorials available?

Wow, please read the stickys above. Yes you can play online if you insert the disc id. You would be looking for the Matrix Infinity. And I dont beleive you should have talked about downloading movies. Its against the law. :)

Yeah you are kind of new so I hope the moderators let you slide on the "downloaded movies" thing. Read the "Forum Rules" sticky and don't do it again. :) :) :)

Secondly, about the Matrix Infinity, I would also like to point out that the Crystal Chip is also a good option. If you do decide to go the HD Loader route, the Bootmanager for the Crystal Chip is nice for loading HD.

Take a couple of days, read all the stickies and posts (they should answer like 98% of your questions), and come back when you have specific questions. Also, a lot of the posts mention some good installers and chip websites. Try doing a keyword seach for your more specific answers to your questions.
