Mod chip vs. flip top

Hi,

I'm trying to decide between mod chip and flip top for my Japanese 15000 PS2. Do you guys have any ideas of which option I should take? The issues with mod chip are higher price and loss of functionality. I heard from modchipworld that I could lose functionality by having mod chip installed. If there is a Japanese game that will not work with a mod chip, by having a mod chip installed, I won't be able to play it whereas if I didn't have a mod chip, it would play fine because my console is Japanese PS2. Also, I read from some of the threads here about problems with mod chips. I don't know exactly what kinds of problems they are, so if someone could kindly point out a few major problems of Matrix Infinity mod chip, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Somebody is lieing to you. Buy a modchip. If anything you gain functionality, not loose it. The top two on the market are the Martix infinity and the Crystal chip. They will load everything out there. If you get a flip lid and swap magic disc you'll be sorry. They dont load all backups and IMO just plain suck.

Hi,

Thank you for the info. Could you please let me know what kinds of problems exist for Matrix Infinity chip? I saw from the forum that problems exist, but it didn't mention what they were.
Also, is the laser of the ps2 a really big issue for using mod chips? I have a really old 15000 Japanese ps2. They work ok for just playing Jp original games, but I suspect the lens are somewhat weak. Do I need new lens to enjoy mod chip with playing backups and whatnot?

Problems!?! What problems? What forum? This one?

The mod chip has nothing to do with the sh*tty lasers Sony uses!

Maybe they were talking about problems with the slimmies blowing up quicker when installing a straight mod without any tweaks.. Dunno.. just a thought.. I do have those every once and awhile.. Not often.. i'm rambling.. I'll shut up now.

Exactly. The only problem i know of is when someone has a bad install, Thats not the chips fault, Its the installers.

Hi,

Thank you for all your input. I saw many discussions of mod chip problems in this forum. People stating no chip is perfect, but Matrix Infinity is almost perfect, but anyways, I can't find it any more. So, I will just take your words that it is safe and good.
Now, here the other question that wasn't answered. Is the laser of the ps2 a really big issue for using mod chips? I have a really old 15000 Japanese ps2. They work ok for just playing Jp original games, but I suspect the lens are somewhat weak. Do I need new lens to enjoy mod chip with playing backups and whatnot?
One last stupid question. When people say laser, is it the same thing as the lens or are they different?
Thank you

To me it seems like your answer can be interpreted either way. So, at the risk of sounding like a dumb ass, could you please tell me if the condition of the laser would affect the mod chip experience or not?

Thanks

Well I was trying to show that your question was asked improperly. The poor lasers Sony uses will determine weather or not your mod chip will be able to read recordable media not the chip. If your PS2 can read original games this has no bearings on if it will read recordable media or not. However with out the chip installed you wouldn't be able to know anyways. OK now that I have you totaly confused....... yes if you have a crappy, not so good, less then adequate, buggered up, low down peace of ---- for a laser yes your "mod chip experience" will be affected.

"mod chip experience" ...hmmm makes me feel like I'm about to drop acid or something, I can hear Jimmy in the back ground... some one save me.

Did any one pick up on that or did I just go way of tangent for my own self enjoyment.
