why do i need a mod chip?

i burned SA to a dvd+rw disk an d it wont work and i read you need a mod ship, why? are there any other ways?

snake2 03-01-2005 09:04

first off put it on a dvd-r or dvd+r, rw kills the laser

you need a mod chip because a un-modded ps2 can tell if its an original ps2 disc or not and the mod chips tells the ps2 to ignore the disc check and load the game.

the only alternative involves shoving a knife or card into your ps2 and that screws up the gears and stuff inside the ps2 making the cd tray no longer eject

get a mod if you feel you cant put one in yourself then send it to someone like sped and have it done, he did mine and it works great

**** have i killed my laser

snake2 03-01-2005 09:18

no, just dont use any more rw media in the ps2

what i ment be kill is the laser works harder to read the disc and causes more ware on the laser and over time it will die faster than if you use r media.

and some ps2s dont even read rw media

Warlock 03-01-2005 09:22

Thats not what he means. Over time a RW disc can destroy the laser because its harder to read. After you get a modchip installed use quality media like ritek or taiyo yuden for backups. I'm not even gonna get into the knife swap method.Edit; Sorry snake replied at the same time lol

You'll probably find it hard to find a V4 installer in the UK. As a rule, I never do anything under a version 5 as the hardware is just too unpredictable with recordable media. :(

Yep, same here. I have installed chips in v4's that played Originals perfectly yet had problems with dvd-r media. I mod nothing older than a v5.
