Norton Systemworks 2004 Speed Disk very slow on Windows XP

I thought the built in defragger for XP was slow (hours) but norton 2004 speed disk just as bad. Since there is a ton of things running to make xp work (ctrl alt delete to see them) could this be loading down the system causing disk optimization to lag severely?

Or maybe norton isn't compatible with xp pro and the packaged defragger is a joke. It even ran slow on 98se. :confused:

Try Diskeeper, its default profile its quite efficient yet very fast.

Was considering disk keeper. By the way, I did not convert to ntfs due to its vulnerability to fragmenting. My xp is on 32 bit. Sd optimization is basically like xp defragger in that it puts frequently accessed files at top of page (front or back of drive?), swap file below that, and miscelaneous files below that. At bottom of drive picture are several yellow squares that are supposed to be directories. It appears that no slack is used like in 98se and fragmentation occurs more often.

I split my drive into 3 partitions.

<--A--><-----------------------B----------------------------><----C---->

A = C: 10gb [Windows] (NTFS)
B = D: ??gb [Games/Progs/Etc] (NTFS)
C = T: 5gb [%TEMP%/SwapFile] (FAT32)

C: gets fragmented the most, with it having windows on there and all, but with it only being 10gb it takes only a few minutes to defrag.
T: is FAT32 as that has less overhead (you can change the drive letters in administrator tools) and holds my temp folder (change the temp folder settings in control panel) and the swapfile (edit swapfile settings so min and max are the same value so windows doesnt mess with it once created).
D: Is just the rest of the drive, meaning when I install a program I manually edit the directory it goes to, ie D:\Games, D:\Progs.

Just a suggestion anyway :D

Well sir, I tried diskeeper and still slow as the others. A neighbor said his 2.2 pentium has an accelerator driver installation that makes things much faster. My new p4c800 3.2 doesn't seem to have that in the installation cd. Right now I'm using a single 3200 400 ddr 512mb mem stick and have ordered another.

What bugs me is the fact that several things in NU 2004 was disabled for xp pro corporate. Maybe system works 2005 fully supports xp. I'll try to find out before buying that.

Strange thing, I specified to move the page/swap file to last but it did not move. HuH? It sure would be great if it was fast and precise like it was in 98se. If I knew what was absolutely necessary running in backbround, by using ctrl+alt+delete to see, maybe SD would do better. :cool:
