My First Xbox!!! Now What?!?!

WEll I finally got an XBOX. It is sitting next to me in all its glory and is begging me to mod it. I dont know what version it is yet but it is brand new from the store.

I have done LOTS of research and I have NEVER soldered before. Should i get an XBIT? Xecuter 3.0? Solderless adapter? another modchip that I havent mentioned??

this is what I want to do.... I want to watch backed up movies that are on dvd-r, listen to mp3s from HD, upgrade the HD to say 120gb, play video files from HD, play backup games, play games from HD, play emulation games (NES, SNES, GENESIS, PS) from HD, what do i NEED?!?!?!

PLEASE help, im so ready to tackle this and get to it. I have already done most of the above with my PS2 but now it is XBOX time. Looking for help, send some my way.

so... im reading on team executioner's website and they say themselves that the best way to mod is to SOLDER not to buy an adapter when they are talkin about a product they are going to release the Xdapt3r.

So...do i suck it up and try to solder? if i solder, then what is the best chip? what do i need and were do i buy the gun, flux, and yadayada??

sorry to bother, just excited and want to get to work modding.

SORRY team XECUTER for grossly mispelling ur name, im stupid its late, anyway, please help guys.

Quall999 30-12-2004 05:13

well, i don't think team x-ecutor comes to these boards at all, so they won't mind.

Anyways, what version xbox do you have?
Soldering is a much better way to go, but if you have never done it before then you might want to practice. The solderless adapters sometimes slip out of place.

However, you can get a solderles adapter and use hotglue to keep it in place. That is probably effective.

More than likely its a 1.6 if its new out of the store..
Don't bother with the solderless adapter, or one of those solderless chips like the spiderchip. They don't have anything nice for 1.6s (due to the change in the lpc port)..

Next give me 100 dollars.. after that practice your soldering.. make a buddy who knows how.. or pay an installer.. I'm not an installer.. just give me 100 dolalrs.

I can't recommend a chip. But Quall is a super baby genius. Listen to him..

Either Smart XX 2 or a duox 2 is a good choice.

Duo x2 :)

But do u want to play on xbox live? or use xbc?

ajmi982 30-12-2004 11:28

XBC is fine, but if i could turn the chip off that would be nice, plus, im a pretty smart guy and love electronics, i could fiddle around with soldering, but why not wait for the 1.6 solderless adapter that x-ecuter is making for their X3.

and... I thought the X3 is the best chip you can get.

It's like asking someone which is better, ford or chevy? coke or pepsi?

Each to their own. Personally, I install X3's, only because I never ever want to be accused of installing crap.

Check the installer thread. If you can find someone local to solder the chip, it's worth the extra 20 bucks. As I've never seen a solderless adapter that could handle a car ride to a lan party.

ajmi982 30-12-2004 12:28

cant find anyone in dc/md area :(. I guess I will try to do it myself even though I have never soldered before.

So, i think im gonna get the X3 unless others out there advise against it.

Is it hard to install? I think I could do it, even though I have never soldered before.

what do i need to buy? type of iron and other tools?

is the X3 the way to go??

Quall999 30-12-2004 12:45

I think you can probably do it, unless you have shaking hands. I mean, xbox's were the first thing I had ever soldered.

Most chips are the same in a sense that they all have the same objective. Direct boot of backups and unsigned code. However, more expensive chips have things like custom OS's, options for display screens, many many bios banks, etc... Things that are nice to have, but really arrn't needed at all. Which bios you have running on the chips make more of a difference.

Any chip compatible with 1.6 xbox's should be fine. They basically all use the same solder points (except older chips not designed for 1.6 xbox's. THey have editional wires to bridge specific points). I would recommend the x3's simply because I am familiar with all chips that they have made in the past and are all great. However, other people here are just as familiar with other modchips.

I just ordered the X3 with PCB Rebuild from www.system-mods.com

I need to know what BIOS to run and what HD to buy.

Also, i need to know what solder to use, solder iron to buy, and how much that will cost. I do not have shaky hands:).

the points seem small as **** though, guess I need a magnifying glass??
