Utilities and WinXP

ok, here's the deal..... i tried ripping SafeDisc from a file, only to find that there is no SafeDisc remover that works on XP (or any NT), then i sought refuge in extracting the EXE from the ICD file, those apps didn't work either....
i tried using emulators, only to find out that the ones i need don't work on NT... safedisc 2 removers work fine tho, but i need a SD1 remover for this one.... so, here's the main question :
Does anything work on XP ?
or i'll just have to start doing things the hard way (manually) ?
also, i tried reaching some of the tutorials you mentioned, but more than half of them were dead.... i did find some tho.....
oh yeah, and one more thing (this is gonna sound stupid) how hard it actually is to crack a file (game) ?
i'm a programmer and i know my way around code(not very advanced stuff, im only 18, but i'm willing to learn), i even tried pulling some of the files thru the C++ debugger, only to find a bunch of memory bytes that just mention EAX and things like that.... i don't really get it (yet) so that's why i need one of the following :
- either the tools to do the job for me (like the safecast remover that works on XP)
- or the proper reading material..... somehow i have a feeling that i'll have to find that SOFTiCE thing, and do the things the hard way, but that's the way the cookie crumbles :)

anywayz, any help/support/information is appreciated....
P.S. i would like to become a member of the GCW team, and i would submit all of my work to them (but i guess they already have most of the things i would be making, maybe with better quality), so plzzz help me learn, or even better - TEACH ME :))

P.P.S. since the rules are strict, if anyone is afraid of getting banned, he can email me @ [email protected] or rksharkz**********com or find me at ICQ# 79525508
tnx :)

dammit, i just remembered......

if all fails, does that mean i will have to revert to Win98 ???
cuz having XP and Win98 on the same HDD... that just doesn't sound good :)
but i could make it work somehow i guess......

I haven't tried the unsafedisc (ver 1.5.5) under xp so I don't know if you are right or not....
But removing sd1 is rather easy and you can learn something from it.
The difficulty of cracking depends on the protection of course, but if you are really interested you should start the easy parts (cd-checks, safedisc 1 :)). You are not learning anything with automatic removers.

Btw, installing 98 and xp on one hdd isn't any problem. But maybe a 3rd party boot loader is the better choice :)

Just my 2 cents....

Believe me, Win98 DOES NOT like me :))) every time i started doing something it froze or crashed or made my work corrupt..... that's why i switched to XP in the first place :))

and yeah, i know i won't be learning anything if i use the automatic removers, but it still works :)) ofcourse, in my case, it doesnt :)

as for the unsafedisc v1.5.5 it says the following when u try to rip a file...
"winNT/2k detected! i may crash now. (press ok)"
- i press it
"exception occured in do_safedisc_**** @ 0001f078h.."

i could try to run it thru a c++ debugger, and try to find the address it's reffering to (altho it's probably "the file i want to rip"s address) and maybe pull something off, but i doubt it.........
i'll keep on looking for the tutorials and the tools needed for the job, but i could really use some "filling-in" :)
tnx again, you helped

I have a lot stuff which may help, but I don't have much time atm. Just send me an email and when I have the time I will reply and send you some stuff....

RkShaRkz 27-12-2004 09:26

well, i don't have your email, and your user profile said that you don't want any emails to be sent, so... i guess i'll just wait for u to give me your mail address.... btw, i'm kinda gathering all the tools i need and some tut-s..... looks tricky and a bit confusing, but i know i will deal with it... eventually :)
