Xbit.....Help!
Ive had and Xbit chip for a while, but was too lazy to get down and install it. Finally I decided to and I've completely forgot all information related.
- Ive installed my chip using the guides on Xbits site. The control points line up. - I then attempted to flash the chip (this is where it all goes pear shaped). What are those for switches for and do they correspond to the Xbit flashing program from Xbits website? I tried flashing it using a configuration 4 on the program and applied a Xecutor 1.1 binary file onto the 1m partition. Ive put the EvolutionX dashboard onto two types of medium DVD+R and CD-RW but I get nothing. What have I done wrong?!?!!? Im a total newbie to this so if anyone can offer a simple explaination (throught all steps would be great if possible), ide greatly appreciate it. Jay |
So, after you installed it, your xbox boots fine? I would use xbtool to edit the bios. Maybe remove the flubber animation, the tm sign or the microsoft logo under the word "xbox". That way, you will know if the chip is booting right.
If it is indeed booting to the bios, then you might need to insert a dummy file onto the disk. |
Cheers Quall999 for the reply. I'll give it a go. I do have one question though, flashing the chip, wot does that do exactly. The reason I ask is that I've put the the evox dashboard onto both a CDRW and a DVDRW(- and +), but it keeps saying that the disk is not recognized. What role does the bios play? Are there any recommendation as to the partition count and binary addition to the partition?

Well, the bios controls whether or not you can play backups amongst other things.

I tried changing the bios appreance, but nothing. So I can only assume that my chip is not installed properly. But I followed everthing step by step. The only thing that could be the problem is that I flashed the chip x4 and added the bios on 1 of them. Does the jumper configuration on the outside of the chip have to be configured to something as well? At the moment they are all in a row in the default configuration.
Any suggestions? Jay |
Any one? I really need to get this thing sorted, it's doing my head in.
Would appreciate any info. Jay |
well, you have to flash the right sized bios. If it is not the right size, it probably won't flash.
I would also recommend using the x2_4981 bios. Unless you have a 1.6 xbox, you don't have to worry about bios versions for xbox's. Forget config 4 and do a config 2 with a 1mb bios. Lessen the possibilty of the wrong switched being flicked. Have every switch off but the first one. Finally, make sure to do a step 8 and see if you get that message. If you do, it means that the bios are not on the chip. |
Thanks for the reply's Quall999. However, I am still having some problems with the setup. I have got the x2 4981 (diagram 1 lists the contents). The second 1 lists the configuration of the chip as you stated..
quote: Have every switch off but the first one You said that when I format the chip, to use configuration 2 (2 1mb slots) as shown in diagram 2. Upon clicking the 'Write' button after selecting the bottom 1mb slot, it says to select a binary file. Which one in diagram 1 do I select? Do i have to add both bin files (1 per slot)? Also, what does the section in the bottom right part of the Xbit Flash software mean (Bios Selectswitches)? Sorry, I just need to get everything clear in my head Look forward to your reply Thanks 1. http://img127.exs.cx/img127/3721/x21ml.jpg 2. http://img22.exs.cx/img22/2148/chip2ss.jpg 3. http://img112.exs.cx/img112/2679/flash5zs.jpg |
Get xbtool if you don't have it already. Open a bios in it (Use x2.4981.06 unles you have an upgraded HDD with space on a newly formated G drive). Then, click "1024k" in the group box in the bottem right corner. Click off the animation toggle and edit to whatever colors you want. Then, click the save as button and save it where ever. If the bios works, you will notice those changes.
Now, your switches don't look correct but your xbit app does. Use your 1024k sized bios. The xbit buttons say "Bios 1" and "1m". Now look at the diagram inb the bottem corner of the app. Under bios 1, it says all the switches are off. You have the first one on still. Before you flash, turn it off and reformat. Then follow the flash tutorials. Hopefully it will work. |
