Major DVD problem..
 

Hello
I was backing up my dvd's using alcohol 120% and everything was going fine until i tried another and it failed at the burning stage...
since then my rom refuses to read any dvd's - films or data disks
it will still read music or data cd's but will not entertain any dvd's
anyone any ideas ??????

have you tried updating the drivers or uninstalling the rom then restarting your system to see if it picks it up as new hardware

yes i have tried both of these solutions but to no avail...

More info needed: Your progs you use to backup, pc specs, os.......

might be a bit drastic but it seem like the only way to sort this out is a complete reboot of your system (did you get a recovery disk when you got the system ?) might help to speed up your system a bit as well

yeah its looking like i will have to do that
i haven't formatted before using xp
presumably i'm gonna lose all the stuff i have downloaded
although i might put in another burner to try to save the things i have got
btw my current burner isnt even writing cds now

I had a similar problem with my DVD burner, but it would only do it to some discs. I fixed the problem by upgrading the firmware on my burner

if you do a reformat , partition your hd then all your dloads needent be affected by format eg c and d drive .. c drive prog etc ,,d drive dloads

then if you wanna save owt before format move from c to d !!!
