Oops! Flashed wrong bios!
 

Hey guys. I chipped my mates new xbox which is a v.1.6 with a Duo x2 chip. This chip has two banks for bios' and come pre flashed with an x2 4971 bios and the evox m6 bios for the 1.6. Now I installed the chip and everything went sweet except that for some reason (blaming tiredness cos it was pretty late) I forgot it was a 1.6 and flashed the x2 4981 bios over the m6. Now the box tries to boot three times then frags. Another mate was here at the same time and I installed the same type of chip in his v1.2 xbox. His chip still had the m6 bios on the other bank so I swapped chips, turned on the new box but still no go. I then used the older xbox to flash the m7 bios on one bank of the new chip and put it back into the new xbox but again, after three tries it frags.
Can anyone help? PLEASE!!!!! :confused:

Sevi.. I hate to mention this but if I remember right it's a possibility.
I have a 1.6 and I believe I remember correctly that if you attempt to boot up with any bios other than the M8_1.6 bios on a 1.6 machine you can do physical damage. That was the only compatible bios that I knew of then and it might still be (that I have seen).

I do know it was very bad to boot with a different type. By "M6" I am guessing you're talking about M8_16.. And if you tried your buddy's chip in your machine and it still frags, it's either a bad connection or you may have smoked something on your motherboard..

Just one thought though.. And I hope it's wrong.. Especially around Christmas.. That would be most un-mint.

Unfortunately Sevi, Neipas02 is quite right. Using non-1.6 bios on a 1.6 has a very high (and pretty much definate) chance of damaging the xbox physically. In all out probabilty, the xbox is now a paperweight with a sellable dvd-rom and controller ports.

Dudes, thanks for all the positive replies and good news! :rolleyes:
However, AX I have booted with the chip disabled and the xbox boots up fine as it normally would. I just can't get the friggin chip to work! :mad:
Any ideas?

be happy u got it working man.. try unsoldering everything and doing it again with the new bios...
