Star Wars: KotoR II - Bug or copy protection ?

I dont know what it is but it causes a bug.

At the first mission, on the mining station where you wake up, you have to take over control of a droid and reroute command for a console.

After you have done this, a cinematic scene starts and your droid gets destroyed. After this i only see a black screen but the game still runs and i can open Options and all the stuff. I can see that i play the main char again. If i save now and load the same save game i control the main char at the location where the droid gets destroyed. If i leave the room with the main char, i get switched back to the droid which is destroyed and unusable.

Hey Warlord,

Are you running off your hard drive or a backup DVD.. Try and reback it up once or twice using different methods.. Databurn/ISO burn etc.. Also check a walk throught to check how the game is supposed to run up to that point and see if you can trigger something to get by..

Also anyone else with this game please post and let us know if you're having this problem or not.

Choochoo 07-12-2004 20:22

yes, where the robot is about an hour into the game the screen turns black... it seems to work from bought/copied games, it works from the disk

as soon as you get past this part, i am told that you can go through the rest of the game without it black screening again(on the hard drive), its just this one part

Neipas02 07-12-2004 20:54

Choochoo just to make sure of what you said
(this doesn't happen when you run off a backup DVD-R)
(it is possible to get past this part when running off the hard disk? if so explain how)..

Just to clarify.. Thanks

Has anyone done the hdd or fatx check patch on this game?

Tyler!

Choochoo 09-12-2004 03:13

1)yes, you can run the whole game off the backup dvd-r (long load times)

2)you can also run it off the hd, stop... use a dvd-r and get past this part (there will be no more black screens, just this one mess up) OR...

3)In the file "swdirsXbox.ini" you change all of the "d:\"'s to the directory that your star wars game is in.....I'll show you what I mean.

The directory my Star Wars game is in is this "f:\Games\StarWarsKnightsoftheOldRepublic2\."

Now this is how the file looks when I changed them:

[Alias]
HD0= f:\Games\StarWarsKnightsoftheOldRepublic2\
OVERRIDE= f:\Games\StarWarsKnightsoftheOldRepublic2\ Override
ERRORTEX= f:\Games\StarWarsKnightsoftheOldRepublic2 \Errortex
TEMP=z:\Temp
MODULES= f:\Games\StarWarsKnightsoftheOldRepublic2\ Modules
LOGS=t:\Logs
LOCALVAULT= f:\Games\StarWarsKnightsoftheOldRepublic2\ LocalVault
DMVAULT= f:\Games\StarWarsKnightsoftheOldRepublic2\ DMVault
SERVERVAULT= f:\Games\StarWarsKnightsoftheOldRepublic2\ ServerVault
STREAMMUSIC= f:\Games\StarWarsKnightsoftheOldRepublic2\ STREAMMusic
TEMPCLIENT=z:\Tempclient
SAVES=u:\
CURRENTGAME=z:\currentgame
TEXTUREPACKS= f:\Games\StarWarsKnightsoftheOldRepublic2 \texturepacks
STREAMWAVES= f:\Games\StarWarsKnightsoftheOldRepublic2 \StreamWaves
GAMEINPROGRESS=z:\GAMEINPROGRESS
REBOOTDATA=z:\rebootdata
LIPS= f:\Games\StarWarsKnightsoftheOldRepublic2\ Lips

**dont put spaces in the directory name even if it does have them**
then...
save right before the terminal, go back to the menu and quit the game, goto Movies and select the sith trailer. Sit through and watch it (I know, sounds stupid) wait until it's finished and returns you to the menu, and then go back and load your game, and go through the terminal sequence, it should go black and then go to the autosaving screen. Hope this helps

Nice and interesting fix.

They hate you too warlord ;)

Yea nice solutions choochoo.. Respect.. And you didn't use big words at that, so even Tyler can understand. (Working on my first ban :D )

Respect.. Respect

relative / absolute

Choochoo, can you use relative paths instead of absolute in the [ALIAS] section ? You tried? Sure it will be a better solution for everyone.
I own the original KOTOR and Iīve also copied it to my HDD because it loooong load times. That game has a lot of bugs too.

a new advice

I used Sillatīs HDD fix to play the game without the disc. And it works, itīs only a new default.xbe and you donīt need to edit the configuration file

nnhood 22-03-2005 14:23

Where?

Where can you get this Sillat's HDD fix? I'm trying to play off the HD and it locks as soon as the game starts...

Quall999 23-03-2005 16:46

btw, unequipping the items on the droid will get you passed that console thing. It had something to do with a shield or something.

Omegazero737 15-04-2005 07:01

Well, I'm also running into that point as well. I'm currently running the game from the HD. I've edited the .ini file, downloaded (and applied) the HD Fix, and also unequipped the droid before accessing the terminal. I even tried Choochoo's method with the same results.

I also tried to data burn the disk with a DVD-R. No Bueno... >.<
I had to use Nero6 instead of Recordnow Max. For some reason RecordNow Max did not see my DVD burner. I'm using the eval version btw.

Quall999 16-04-2005 11:10

After you unequip everything from the droid, access the terminal from the far right side. I don't know if that actually does anything, but people have reported that it does help.
