need new DVD drive help

Have chatted with Qual999, and may I say thanks for the help but still no luck

does anyone know of the best DVD drive to replace the standard one in my box, I've heard that the Samsung is prob best followed by the Phillips but what model numbers and where best to buy etc.

Opp, i don't think I stated the better one in the PM. Anyways, Samsungs are somewhat better, they do not read dvd+r's though. Phillips read all media but cd-rs (well, most anyways).

So if you have a lot of dvd+r's, then I would suggest the phillips drive. Otherwise choose a samsung if you have the money.

The samsung drive is "SDG-605". The Phillips are "model VAD6011/21". However, you cannot buy any xbox drives off of the shelves of PC stores. They have to be salvaged from another xbox. That is why I basically said model numbers did not matter. Your best bet is Ebay, most online shops are overpriced and only sell replacement lasers.

Stay away from the Samsung SD-616T's. They are PC drives that can be hacked for xbox. They are the best and read everything flawlessly. But can be a b*tch to hack. Most on ebay are not hacked and sell for like 80 bucks.

xbox burns still up in arms

Have opened XBox again just too doublr check what drive I had before buying on and it is the samsung drive already, the one and only great drive that does everything, next step what media do you think is best will have to try different coasters as all this burning is doing is making holes in my pockets.

I can feel an xbox burial taking place

wow, a Samsung drive with that error. Out of curiosity, what DVD media are you using? Brand and type. I have been using Riteks, Sony's, and "house brand" of some online shop, I cannot remember which though.

even though it's a bitch to hack, will the Samsung SD-616T's drives read all my xbox media? I have a ton of dvd+r backups, that's why I'm asking. I'm thinking on purchasing an already hacked one. Thanks.

Hi Quall999, as I stated on another thread to which you replied, I'm using ridata with supposedly G04 dye all my DVD backups work fine just not games. How can you tell if a game is on a CD or DVD format ( just for reference )

I would be easier to download your brain - cheers

The 616T's read everything under the sun. I've modded three so far, just got one more in the mail, gonna mod it this weekend.

Honestly, if you have*any* soldering experience whatsoever you can mod one of these suckers. Plus it looks like people are selling pre-hacked drives on ebay now. Not sure about the legality there, but it saves you some time.

Voyager, the only way to tell if it is dvd+ or -r, is by reading the package or lable. I don't see a difference in colors. CD's are all -r/rw.
