SP2 piracy protection?

lately i installed 2 games (NFSU:2 and SW:battlefront) and neither of them work (get speed2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. -same thing for battlefront),tried everything
i use winxp pro with all patches avail from windowsupdate.microsoft.com (even patches that are in sp2) but i dont have sp2 installed
so i go to my m8 and he says sp2 patches come with piracy protection so u cant run newer pirated games. that true or ?

Means that you have pirate version of the game?
