Which chip do I choose?
Before the choice was easy, I wanted a DMS3......... but now theres all sorts of new and old chips coming out that can do many different things, plus theres that whole BIOS thing where you have to upload a "hacked" bios to get backups to work and the DMS4 controversy about them trying to eliminate competition and all that......... im not sure what chip to go with now....... can anyone recommend one?
Its important to me that the chip be able to do the following: 1. Its important to me that the chip will work on a V4, since thats the only PS2 I have (Yes I know these have a crappy lazer, but I can't afford a new ps2, much less a new PS2 and the cost of chipping it). 2. Supports the official HDD (I play FFXI on my PS2, I dont want that ability disabled/lost) 3. Supports playing PAL games in NTSC (I have a few PAL PS1 games on me, half of which DONT work in emulators >.<). I heard that some chips do that........ but I dont know if I heard it correctly or they were talking about something else, like PAL DVD movies. 4. Direct-boots any PS1 or PS2 media. This should be a given...... with the proper bios pretty much every chip does this I believe. Keep in mind that this includes imports and the like, not only backups or home-brew applications. 5. Is compatible with cheat devices like GameShark, Action Replay, and Code Breaker. 6. This is a given too........ but supports disabling the chip in case I run into a game that uses some new anti-mod technology or problems with the chip in the future. So.......... can anyone recommend a chip that is confirmed to be able to do all this? |

Looks like the two of you beat me to it...
Matrix Infinity :)

Alot of people like the infinity :) . I agree with them.

I see
So the matrix has no problem with cheat devices or DNAS or direct booting originals/backups/and imports? I heard that it had problems with cheat devices and the like and that it can only boot anti-mod ps1 games on a V9+. |
The cheat discs have been solved with the latest v1.38 update I believe :)

The real question here Cyber is, are you ever going to make up your mind and get that damn thing modded? You have been asking this question and contemplating doing this for a very very long time and have still yet to go through with it. Your almost ad bad a Seany with his xbox about a year ago.
The Infinity is a great chip, you will be able to use it with your Official Sony HDD. No chip by its self will let you play back-ups online. To do that you will need to patch your back-ups with the DNAS patches. Yes the Infinity will output the correct signal when playing a PAL game on an NTSC system. The only chips that support mod protected games on a PS2 are the infinity and DMS3 and DMS3+, but only on v9/v10 consoles. Just make up your mind and get on with it! You have had that v4 since the way back when and its still un-modded. You will be lucky if it even reads recordable media. But if its been gently used over all these years you might be lucky. |
I should have the money by December, I have half of it already.
