I Hate my PS2
I have been having a lot of trouble reading backup media (Taiyo Yuden etc), well I ordered HD loader and it finally came. I installed the hard drive and then tried to boot from the disk, it didnt work. I then proceeded to try booting my original Katamari disk and that didn't work. I retried about 5 times and it finally booted up. Do you think my laser needs to be cleaned? Or do I just need a new PS2?
I have the no solder modchip installed, so there are no soldering issues. |
I personally would try cleaning the laser then adjust the laser if that doesn't work. What version is it anyways?
|
Ill take it if you dont want it.

What version is your PS2?
|
GAH, I ran over and got a laser cleaning kit, but the PS2 won't even let me run that. It is a SCPH-3001 so V4.

V4 PS2's are notorious for laser issues! You may need to have the laser cleaned and or adjusted.

Well it finally went through the cleaning process and HDloader now works (Not my backups though). Does anyone know if HDloader works for multiple disk games?

Your using cheap media. Backup ONLY to Ritek G04 Dye DVD's.
Also, no solder modchip  their not very good to be honest, e.g. swap tricks, you will ruining your laser fast with this method. Same with bad media, ruins your laser. |

And for the laser i had used a cotton bud and gently cleaned it...i had no need to move the white cog..or i think i might have just not a significant amount. i can read any original disc, yet no backups whatsoever (using Ritek Ridata g04) also it doesn't read backed up DVD-R movies, but i don't care i got a v10 for my back-ups and a dvd player for my movies. I'll be giving it a HD so hopefully it will be able to play it straight from there. |

Swap tricks don't ruin the laser at all bud, if u do the "knife trick" it'l ruin your drive mechanism. Others such as the nosolder modchip doesn't do anything apart from eject ur drive! |

No solders put a lot of strain on the electronics in the PS2, I have even seen them blow out fuses in a few PS2's first hand. |
