Halo 2 Backup Problem

I backed up my Halo 2 game asap (I have a habbit of ruining my cds/dvds quickly) and I went to boot it up and it goes to a black screen, then back to the dashboard. My XBox is modded and plays other backed up games, just not this one.

Anyone got any ideas?

i heard halo 2 is like just too big to fit on a dvd
delete like dashupdate.xbe
of course this info is comin from tylerdurden....

Bahaha you kill me smalls..

The Halo2 Tylertorial Copy method..

Get the files onto your pc..

Go into the binks folder..
Backup both the CREDITS file and INTRO into a different folder..
Rename the backup of the intro file, to the credits file..
(use the exact file name)..

Move it back into the original binks folder..
(Replace the Original Credits file with the renamed Intro file)..
This is 345 mbs replaced with 13mbs.. Thus eliminating 332mbs of data.

Only hitch is.. when you beat the game the intro will play instead of the credits.. But that will make it small enough to copy to a dvdr..

This has concluded the Tyler Durden method of copying Halo2..
If you want to see the credits slap in your original before you beat the game..

Actually if you just delete the Dashupdate.xbe the game will fit on a dvdr.

Neipas02 10-11-2004 19:17

Yeah AX.. I was probably as tired as you were writing the post when I read it.. For some reason I saw dashupdate.xbe and it registered default.xbe in my head..

So I thought you were being a funny guy.
It made me laugh though hehe.

Just so some of you know, halo 2 has a problem with drives with weak lasers. It will give a "failed to load map" on specific multiplayer maps. Backuping up the game and playing off of that disk might improve that error. I believe the drives have trouble reading files off the second layer.

WHat about DL DVD?

Hey Guys.
I'm going to head out and pick up a DL DVD writer today.
Typically I've done the same as described here - rename files or delete un-needed stuff (like Japanese content).
I was wondering though.... has anyone had sucessess burning Halo 2 (or any other oversized game) to a DL dvd?

Quall999 12-11-2004 14:34

I just now burned a copy. It was only like 10mb too big, deleting the dashupdate.xbe and the other xbl xbe file DID get it to fit on a dvd5

cloud79 13-11-2004 04:32

Hey guys!!!
I've a copy of Halo 2 PAL on my PC Hard Drive..
I've deleted the DashUpdate.xbe.. but it still remains too big to fit on a DVD5 :(
It's a problem of a few MB (I think 10MB).. is there any other file that I can delete???
Please help me :(

I Found Halo 2 Still To Big After Removing The Xbox Live Stuff, But By Messin Round With The Credits File Got It Down To 4.66 Gig, All On Dvd Now.. ;)

Big Country 13-11-2004 08:15

Are the PAL and the NTSC disks different sizes? I have the NTSC version and my backup is under 4.4 GB. I double checked to see if some files didn't transfer over but they are all there and the backup plays fine.

cloud79 13-11-2004 09:49

It seems that PAL version is bigger than NTSC one...
So it is necessary to remove the ATTRACT.BIK file and substitute it with a smaller file with the same name..
