Legality question.

Is it illegal to sell modified DVD drives? Cause I found a couple dealers who are selling Samsung 616's for less than 20 bux a pop and once I figure out this power supply issue. I want to do a couple for friends. After that, I was thinking about selling them.

Anyone know?

not really, there may be a firmware legal issue, but you'd have to read up on that.

20 bucks a pop? that is kind of....unbelieveabe. Are you sure they are already hacked? because retail price is about $30, and hacking them can be a bitch.

Yeah, I think I'd have to distribute without the uploaded Firmware. Yeah, this place I got the last drive from has it for 16, plus 7 shipping so about 23 total. Also have all the varations of it too. I'm thinking of giving 'em a call and work out a huge package deal :)

well, you are supposed to flash before reversing the motor and re-routing the power inputs. So i do not know how it would react after aking the needed changes.

Well technically no, you can flash the bios at any time. You just can't read a disc in the drive till you do.

It looks like people are selling hacked drives for 145 bucks! Geez, I could make a killing selling them for 70 :D

Yeah, I just need to check with a lawyer or something.

IT all depends on the terms of use. I mean, a lot of companies don't really care if you distribute firmware, since alot of the time they are distributing updates, or hacked firmware that makes the pc drive better in some way. I am not so sure it is the same for xbox though.
