Bad Flash - Or Is It Me?
I have a Matrix Infinity in a V5 PS2. There are however some strange happenings afoot. My wires are all neat, with good connections, GND is as short as possible and I use 30AWG Kynar for all points, bar 3v3 and GND - those are 18AWG.
Now, the PS2 has lost the date/time setting, and when I try to change them, the date for example which is at 1/1/01 when I try and put the date up, it flicks up and then returns straight away to the original date. The electron swirls are in the centre of the screen together, and I don't get 'Infinity 1.x' under the PS2 logo. However, the chip disables and when there is no controller in port 1 it stays black, but doesn't reboot. Now, I'm pretty sure it isn't me - I've replaced the install twice and it's all sweet. So, could it be a bad flash? Thanks a lot guys, in the meantime, I'm gonna remove the chip - lets start from a level foot. Thanks a lot... LUFCfan :) |
Did your install work at any point..... meaning do you think its a bad flash because after you installed it and tried flashing it there problems started to happen?
|
Hey there LUFC,
No worries here i've had the same happen to me in the past. Sometimes the onboard bios seems to get a bit confused when the machines's modded. Sounds crazy but give this a shot Go to change your date and just keep UP HELD. Keep it held for at least 10-20 seconds and it will release itself and the time etc will work as normal again. Strange huh? Lemme know how you get on |
@ Sped = the install never worked properly. It disabled and stuff and the install was done 2 times, but the same problems occured.
@ Jay = I'll give it a go later - thanks :) |
The BIOS has unstuck = that method really works! :)
I held up for 15-20 secs when setting the time, rebooted, switched a couple of other options and it's fine now... Thanks! :D |
now to remodify :)

OK, now I'm very skeptical of this chip - completely replaced install THREE times and the same thing every time - originals fine, backups not - no Infinity under 'PlayStation 2', however without Joypad 1 in the slot, the bloody thing goes black for 15 secs and then reboots like it should. Otherwise nothing - any suggestions, because I'm out? Thanks, LUFCfan :)

Can you post a picture?
I once had a situation somewhat similar to yours, although the "Infinity" did come up under the logo, it just wouldnt boot back-ups. This was in a V10 brand new, so it wasnt a laser issue. The strange thing was that when I first would turn it on and try and boot a back-up it would boot, but once I booted an original (with out powering down the machine) then tried a back-up it would boot and as long as I didnt power down the unit it would continue to boot. It like the original woke up the chip some how. But your situation is some what different in that your not even getting the "Infinity" under the logo. This happens when the bios wires are incorrect of whatever. Hey it may come down to a bad chip. I have yet to see a bad Infinity but that doent mean crap, as I'm sure there have been some. The chip I had in the V10 I took out an put in a V5 and it worked flawless, so I still dont totally know what the problem was. You might try to reflash the chip. |
Yeah, I'm borrowing my mates V7 Infinity I modded for him to load 1.35 onto the MC and then flash it from there. The Infinity team seem to think I have a homebrew version - with a bad flash :)

Success!!!
It did turn out to be a Homebrew version - but the problem was with my upgrade disc, and not the chip or install. Reburnt the disc in Nero and followed the small step above and viola! Up it came :D So chuffed, I knew it wasn't me ;) |
Good job Lufc!

Thanks :)
