V12 won't read DVDR

I have a v12 modded the the Matrix Infinity, CDR boot perfectly as do DVD originals etc, the problem is with DVD-R games and films which produce an 'unable to read disc' error.

Has anybody found how to adjust the laser yet?

lufcfan 29-10-2004 13:37

Sounds like the lasers suck more than ever - just ONE day

Hull_chipper 29-10-2004 14:10

Ok sussed!

Always test a DVDR movie in the machine before opening it up. The DVD pot on this machine had to be turned down to 300 ohms (50%) in order to get DVD-R media working. There obviously isn't much life in this laser unit!

The pots on a good machine read 770.

A step in the right direction as far as chippers are concerned, less parts/less screws, easier to chip but............

In my opinion peeps want to get something for their money, you put this next to a crystal xbox on the run up to xmas & most peeps will take the big clumpy machine!

Which leads us nicely onto the next issue, nowhere on the box/console does it refer to it as a PSTWO!

It is still a PS2

$ony is Ca$hing on the Pstwo's one way or another..
If someone drops it and advoids warranty Boom, another $150.00 down the toilet at Eb or Gamestop or If the laser Shots then another Buck fifty flushing down again..
I'll stick with my V10..

Terry Bogard 03-11-2004 00:24

Some of you might already know this, but just in case...

I'm about to run my PStwo for 3-4 days straight with a dirty scratched up disc. It still has the seal intact so before I rip it open, I'm doing this test. If it survives then all should be good with the world. If it dies, then back I go to EB for a replacement.

I got a few games from the local video shop. They were pretty scratched up. Should do fine. I put a few extra finger prints on for good measure ;)

lol, think i will stick to my V7 thank you very much :)

But i mite get a brick for xmas, like a cheap one just to play halo 2 on :)

Definately keep us up to date on your progress. Can you put a crappy Music CD in and put it on infinite loop? That might help with constant CD Reading.

No, He’ll definitely want to torture the DVD laser, not the CD laser. Will it try to play a DVD-R DVD movie at all? Anyway, get it so full of fingerprints that FMV’s skip like crazy and let it go… I love to torture stations myself!!

Terry Bogard 03-11-2004 22:56

It's been running for a day so far without issue, so I hope I have a good laser.

I did try a DVD-R (crappy princo media) movie a couple of days after I got the unit and and it read it no probs.

Data discs tend to give the PS2's a harder time.

lufcfan 04-11-2004 10:16

Don't do too much at it ;)

Terry Bogard 04-11-2004 23:24

Day 2 and still good. I might just run it for one more day and then call it quits. For the last day, I'm going to use one of my DVD-R movies on repeat. Do something different.

If it survives, it should prove that my laser is pretty good. If I am going to have problems, it should die within this soak test period. Am I right?

Does the Matrix Infinity actually cause more pressure on the laser, or is this only due to the media that is going to be used. I only use Ritek G04 media, which is supposed to be the best.

I want to make sure of everything before I make the jump and void the warranty. Actually, I wonder if there is a way to safely remove the seal and then reapply it...

Hull_chipper 05-11-2004 02:10

I think the prob is peeps flashing the chip after fitting it to a v12, I've had no probs flashing in a v9 then refitting it to a v12.
