green then orange
I have tried to install a 2.6 in a 1.6 double checked all solder joints 2 times, and with a voltmeter. Now when I turn it on the button light comes on the about 10 to 20 sec later turns orange. What would cause that. Can anyone tell me, are you supposed to soloder everypin on the header to the lpc except for 3 pins or should i just solder the like 5 or six like in the 2.3 install..Any help would be helpful thanks.....

orange or red? The only reason an xbox would blink green and orange is because the a/v cable is not plugged in.

No, Its green like it should be then turns orange like 20 to 1 min later(steady). Today I read that Xbox's made with a 9/16/2004 Man. date have a new Kernal Bios 5960, and are causeing some major issues with the Cromwell bios. But one made 9/14/2004 are 5659. Also does anyone have a 2.6 with the words 2.6 on it like in the usual pics. Here is where I got the info.

Would that make a diff, even if you don't get a Cromwell screen to come up.(it was a brand new not even turned on yet xbox...)

ok, i might know the problem. I wasn't quite understanding. The first batch of 1.6 chips did not come with cromwell bios completely compatible with 1.6 xbox's. However, the chips are fine. You have to find another means of flashing your chip. Do you have a programmer? As soon as you update with the x2_4983 bios (check to make sure the bios work with 1.6's first though), everything should work fine.
There are a couple methods of flashing the chip, like exploiting or using another xbox. The problem with both is that in exploiting, evox will read the tsop on the xbox as locked (since that is what you boot from), and will not force a flash on the modchip after you turn it on. And Xbox swapping requires re-soldering and an older xbox. You can try a method I said above or maybe get a replacement from the shop you bought it from, which might be a 1st gen 2.6b as well :( xbox swapping sounds like the best method, but can be quite long. And if you're not good at soldering...... |

Also, it seems that the flashbios work, but don't support a sscreen on the 1.6's. You should be able to boot your xbox up, click (A) (which weill select to load a bios from a disk; the dvd tray will pop open automatically) insert a disk containing a "bios.bin", and close the tray manually. It will take a minute or 2. If it works, you xbox will power off, if not, the dvd tray will eject. |
Thanks Alot for your help and research Quall999, I really do appreciate it!! So would this chip come up with a cromwell on a 1-1.5 xbox? Just thought I would ask Before installing on anything else.

yah, on other version xboxes you would get a blue screen, asking if you want to flash bios from a disk, C:\, and I can't remember any other options it may have. Disk was the first option i believe.
if you experiance any lockups, it has been found and noted that 1.6's with the "Hynix RAM chips" and "Philips DVD drives" seems to be the cause. You might want to wait for a bios update before flashing. |
