I heard that the Action Replay 2 allows you to play copied games, is this true?

No - not without damaging the PS2 with the knife trick or slide card...

Just get a modchip... A Duo2 is cheaper than an AR and pays for itself with the lack of hassle...

You would think by now we would be beyond swap disc and swap chips.

You certainly would - and after having a chip, you'll see why too... :)
