Anyone Pre-Ordered GTA from Play.com?

Mine's been shipped this afternoon, so if you pre-ordered early, check your order status :D

JoyBoy 26-10-2004 13:11

Yeah, ordered from there, checked the status of my order several times today. Seen it change from preordered to order placed a few times. Its been stuck on preordered for the past few hours. Looks like I wont be playing it this coming Friday, the bastards. :(

From what I have read, Amazon, Play, Simplygames and Gameplay all sold out of their intial stock before the game was even in stock. The bastards, should have made that clear before I ordered.

lufcfan 26-10-2004 14:06

When did you preorder? I preordered on the 26th June :)

JoyBoy 26-10-2004 15:55

Ordered it last Thursday. I figured I would wait to see if any of the online retailers offered some good deals. Looks like I will be playing it next Monday at the earliest now.

Update....

Quote:

Dear Customer

The publisher of this title has underestimated demand and we cannot guarentee dispatch of your order for the release date. We expect additional stocks over the next few days and anticipate the delay you experience will be minimal.

We would like to appologise for any inconvinience, which has been caused by factors outside of our control.

Kind Regards,

Play.com Customer Service
Bastards. Just recieved that Email (and no, I didnt send them one pissing and moaning, asking if I would be getting the game this Friday). Like I said, they should have made that clear before I even placed the order, last week. I like how they blame Rockstar for not anticipating demand. Yeah ****ing right, based on the sales of GTA 3 and Vice City, I'm sure Rockstar knew how big this title was going to be. Ahhh well. On another note, I just preordered MGS3 at play.com. Its 6 months in advance, so hopefully I will get that game on release day

Damn Bounty,

You're just catching bad breaks left and right.

I've never heard of a publisher being the determining factor in how many units of a product that the retailer receives.. Doesn't the retailer order how many units they feel will be sufficient?

And yes the guys at Rockstar without a doubt knew what the demand would be on this game.. Their only problem is finding pants with pockets big enough to stash all the cash.. Thats bullshat..

That letter sounds like "We're sorry.. we are stupid.. Please don't take your business elsewhere.."

And on another topic.. Has the parental uproar started for this one yet, or is it still to early.

TylerDurden 27-10-2004 16:29

Ok, I was gonna be an ass and flaunt the game I have but now I feel sorry for you guys and wont do it.

That sucks.

Tyler, like that comment makes me feel better :p

Neipa, its not as bad as it seems. I still got DOOM3 and Prince of Persia (cant believe I skipped this game) to complete on the PC; and Manhunt and Final Fantasy X to complete on the PS2. Hopefully 1 of those games gets finished before GTA arrives. :)

Its still within my power, to cancel the order and actually buy the game instore, but I end paying a few pennies more. More then likely, like what happened with Vice City, Driv3r and MGS2 over here, the street date will be broken tomorrow and the game will have sold out by the time I get there.

I think I understand what play meant when they blamed the publisher now. If I got this right, Rockstar have limited the amount a retailer could purchase. The bigger the retailer, the more they could buy. So, basically, the bigger retailers over here, like Game, HMV and Virgin, got priority over their online rivals. Ahhh well, as long as no spoilers start going up on this Forum, I'll still be smiling :)

I was just checking out the new GTA game at our local K-Mart yesterday. They had it on the shelf locked up but I didnt buy it. I was in a hurry and didnt have time to wait for them to get it out for me. Watch, it will be gone by the time I get back there to pick it up. ( I probably just jinxed myself too!) :(

I picked mine up at Walmart Wednesday morning at about 8:30.. I was bored what can I say..

They seemed to be pretty prepared for the rush.. They had a reserve of about 30 games sitting on the bottom of the lockbox in addition to the normal display shelf full.

That is interesting about the publisher/retailer thing. I guess it does make sense when its put like that. Sort of like electoral votes.. Bigger the state more votes..

And no worries bounty. It's a fun game but i'm having a little trouble getting into it.. Not taking to it right away like VC or GTA3.. And the Prince of Persia is an awesome game.. I still need to finish it myself. So have no fear and don't bother with a cancellation, it can be waited on for awhile.
