Thompson DVD-ROM Swap. Is it possible?
 

I have 2 xbox's both V1.0

I wanted to place one of better working Thompsons, in my other xbox. I tried to put in a game, and I kept getting an unknown message when it tried reading he disc. I've tried DVD's CD-RW DVD+R DVD+RW's, backups, originals, and nothing would work. I go put the original drive back in, and it worked. Do I need to do something to have another DVD-ROM drive work in my xbox? Both DVD-ROM drives work fine, I just wanted to put my better Thompson in my other xbox. Attempting to install a PC SamSung. Thank You.

nope, they are all interchangable.

At least here in Germany I found a shop where you can buy replacement drives. But I don't know if you can only replace a drive by one of the same brand.

You actually need the drive firmware from one of the original Xbox drives. I haven't heard of anyone doing a thompson swap but the samsung works only cause the 605b firmware works with the 616T
