Installed and works flawlessly. :D I'm now working on it fitting nicely in the case.

Quick question, does an 80-pin ide cable improve performance over the standard 40pin?

Dont know about the cables but I do have a request for ya. Try and make the eject tray fit nicely. Itll look like its in a bit further than normal.

@ frito Is that a xbox samsung drive?or a pc dvd samsung drive ya put in?
if a regular pc dvd drive does it read original games ok?

I figured he had a PC Samsung drive because he said he was still trying to fit it in there. An xbox samsung would fit no problems.

Yeah, it's a Samsung PC drive SD-616 to be exact. It reads game perfectly, load times are cut in half on Freedom fighters, I can't say much for other games yet cause that's the only one I brought to work.

And since i put this into a 1.0 I only had to shave one peg down of the dvd rack for it to fit perfectly.

I hit a snag though, I don't have the Xbox front panel thing that goes on the end of the loading tray. The only one I have is off of a thompson drive and it doesn't seem to fit.

Anyone have one off of a samsung drive they want to sell?

Umm I think the panels are all the same. You just gotta take it off the old drive. Be careful, you could break somethin.

Where exactly did you go for the wire diagrams? I've seen 3 differnet diagrams, pointing to 3 different places for each wire. I'm trying ot figure out where to splice the 4 wires to my Yellow DVD-ROM Cable. Also, These diagrams say the numbers on the Yellow DVD-ROM cable, are like this....

I'd appreciate your help. Also. The point on the SamSung DVD-ROM "Tray In" My solder point came off, and I soldered my wire to a via point just below that point, it looks like the Tray In solder point, originates from that area. Will that alternative way work? If not, how can I fix the solder point?

Yeah, that via should be just fine.

I used the PDF from the guy I got the drive from on Ebay, it's the same one on xbox-scene.

Also, mentioning of note. 3 and 4 were switched for me.

To use this PDF here's what you gotta do, the diagram is for the small end. Find the wire (using the small end) and cut it, then wire the drive to the cut wire on the long plug side.

Just switch 3 and 4 and you're set.

Tomorrow I can do a whole pin-out.

Can this be done by splicing the wires to where there supposed to go, instead of cutting the yellow wires? 3 of the wires I cut, were the wrong one. I tried soldering them back together, and the xbox wouldn't boot. I tried wrapping them back together without using solder, and tried booting the xbox, and it still didn't boot. I'm ordering 2 extra DVD-ROM cables incase I screw up again. Also, that PDF was the one that guy told me to check out when I purchased mine from Ebay as well. But, in the diagram, in specifics, it does not tell you where "Eject" and "M1" go. I'm thinking when he shows the little diagram of the yellow power cbale, and shows where the eject wire is, that must be where I splice the "Eject" wire from the DVD-ROM to. But "M1 - Ready Signal" I have no idea. Could you tell me which wires you spliced? I'll do the revers method for Tray In/Out, when the extra wires get here. Please get back to me. Thank You! :-)

Edit - Also, how can the drive get power? I already have a Cold Cathode light installed in my xbox, sharing power from the HDD. Is there another way for the DVD-ROM drive to receive power?

Yeah, splicing isn't an issue as the small plug end of the yellow cables doesn't get plugged into anything.

You can, use those other wires though, to feed power to the DVD drive. The Pinouts have the power marked so you just need to solder those wires to the posts of the power connector.

I'll try to do an MSPaint of the pinouts for you. :)

Okay here's the pinout I'm using that works.

I don't trust the voltages other people use cause their're all contradictory. I'm gonna hook the xbox to a multimeter a little later.

This is looking at the end that plugs into the xbox.

Okay finished 'em. The 12v is a little low but still close enough to call it 12V

Here's the new pinout. I'm gonna go ahead and wire 'em up to the molex connecter posts and I'll let you know how it works.

OKay finished wiring the 5's 12's and Grounds. I'm about to plug it in, I'll let you know if it explodes or not.
