Sonys new slim PSTwo hacked already!!

Well its seems that a very new mod team with an even newer style of mod chips (blank like the xbox chips that the end user flashes with a hacked flash bios) has confirmed that they have already been able to hack the new slim PSTwo with there chip.

Read more about it here.

:) :) :)
Gimme Gimme Gimme

Having looked at the mobo pictures it was obviously only going to be a matter of time, lets just hope we can get stock in time for its UK release (not that I would consider using them in the UK of course :p )

Well since it comes to the end user blank, (only able to boot dev apps) and its up to them to flash it with a hacked bios, would this make it legal to install/sell in the UK?

I stop short of saying the o2 mod is legal. Personally I think TS would shoot first & ask questions later. You'll find yourself prosecuted with the gear confiscated/destroyed & having to spend a fortune in legal fees l8r trying to convince a judge that your goods were not covered by the act!

spedmetal 16-10-2004 13:41

UK's mod chip legality is a whole different thread all together!

I'm very interested in the crystal chip and hope it turns out to be what they are promoting it as. What I find even more exiting about it is that they are saying it works with all versions including the new slim PSTwo now being dubbed the V12.

Terry from foundmy.com has had nothing but good things to say about it.

We will just have to wait and see. Maybe I can get a few samples from someone :D

Im gonna want this chip and ps2.

Why is it though that it states that playing backups or imports will not be allowed/supported? Or am I just reading that wrong?

Will Crystal Chip allow me to play copied (aka "backups") or import games?

Crystal Chip will not allow you to play copied or import games. While it does allow you to read "burned" media discs, we have specifically designed our software patches to disallow the execution of game discs. There are 2 main reasons for this. The first reason is that in many countries, it is illegal to play copied and/or import game discs even if you own the original disc. The second reason is that Crystal Chip is intended for legally launching "homebrew" software. Due to the aforementioned legal problems, we felt it best to keep any questionably-legal features out of the Crystal Chip design so as not to become confused with so-called "modchip" devices which have been deemed illegal in some countries. While we understand that many people use these devices to legitimately back up their game discs or play import software which is not available in their region, we also respect the fact that different people are subjected to different laws in regard to consumer rights.
I suppose by upgrading the firmware it should be alright eh?

Also it seems that $ony implemented a new protection to not allow non-$ony memory cards from being used. Is this right? I'm not sure if I'm reading this properly....

A bit like BMW not allowing anybody other than their own service centres to service your car, a bit like Epsom voiding your warranty if you use non branded ink cartridges...........................

The big fish is weilding 'corporate hospitality' & treating high court judges to a weeks golfing holiday on exclusive tropical islands.

They play the game, so we do as well.

"DMS Team have had the slimline USA PS2 slimline in our hands for several days. Testing shows that our FPGA code already supports booting burned medias on the new system. Therefore the DMS4 Lite and Pro will boot burned progarms on the new PS2 by default. The Eject solder point has been removed, however we have found an alternative point which can be used to provide the functionality required by our FPGA code :) We're now working on installation diagrams and they will be online by the time our MODS hit stores early next week. Once again DMS lead the field with innovation and confirm first support for the new system. Enjoy :)"

Looks like DMS4 also hack the new ps2s :)

TylerDurden 17-10-2004 07:54

Oh yeah I forgot about the "eject solder point".

Hmmm yes that will be a problem. Is there a reset button?

spedmetal 18-10-2004 22:02

Well it doesnt look like its a problem after all, check this out.

http://www.neoasic.com/jpg/CC-70012-logo.jpg

Turns out the CC chip doesnt need the eject/reset points on the PSTwo.

I'm hoping to get a sample soon.

Hull_chipper 18-10-2004 22:49

No time for samples, we need stock of a working/reliable v12 mod!
