HDL Quastion

I have not chipped PS2.
My friend have 2.
But my friend's PS2 is PAL
And my Is NTSC/J
And I have network adaptor.
If i buy HDD.
Can i take his games and copy to my HDD and play with out any modchip ?

And what HDD i need for PS2 ? PC's ?.
There are different ?
