I've lost the ability to make backups!

Recently, I've lost the ability to burn PS2 games... All the games I've burnt in the last 2-3 months do not load up on my PS2 (either the disc is not recognized, or the load stops at a consitent point). However, I can still play my old backups. I'm using the same DVDs (in fact, the exact same spindle of DVD - Ritek G04). I'm using the same DVD Decrypter program with the same DVD burner drive. Does anybody have an ideas? I'm using a v1 PS2 with (I believe) the only Neo (DVD) chip that supports the v1.

Thanks in advance.

thats your prob you need a newer mod chip and your aser is prolly on the way out

If I remeber correctly the neo chip is a laser killer, and doesnt work on some games.

As snake mentioned, its time to upgrade to a newer ps2 and chip.

For a newer chip I recommend a duo2. They are very good and reliable chips and will do direct boot on PS2 backups. If you want the high end features then go with a Matrix Infinity chip. Your V1 has to be close to laser death by now.

If the console is in fact a v1 i am shocked it lasted this long.

Frequency99 25-09-2004 07:55

I don't believe it's the laser, since I can still play my old games properly. It's just the new games I've burnt that do not work. If it's the chip, then it must be something to do with a new protection scheme in the last 3 months or so...

And yes, it is a v1 and it lasted. I don't use it THAT much...

There is no protection on the newer games.

If you've got the old neo 2.2 chip and have to swap your games using gameshark/action replay then sack the whole thing off as little/no people use this method....the neo 2.2 pumps a nice 5v through a 3.3v capicitor so within time it DOES kill your laser.

Personally it wouldn't be worth getting a new modchip in your machine. The best thing to do would be to sell her on (Ebay etc) and buy yourself a premodded console. Depending on where u r in the world there's enough people on this board to point you to your local 'chipper'

My thoughts exactly! Then pick up a v7 or newer console.

I personally use a Duo chip and it does the job quite nicely on every game I have thrown at it so far. Norcalmods is one of the best installers in the US

100% agree CGL :D

just remember if you get a v9/10 get the romeo mod done so your laser wont die

Good point, Snake!

Pm Spedmetal if you need help regarding this procedure and if you need help on chip install. He's the best in the US. ;)

Did you try your new burns on any other PS2? Everyone’s dumping on your old PS2 so bad that nobody’s addressed the possibility that your burner might be getting weak.

Frequency99 28-09-2004 15:27

Do DVD burners get weak? I'm trying to find another PS2 to try it on... However, there does exist the possibility that my backups will work on someone else's machine with a stronger laser!

It's quite obvious from my observations that my PS2 is working fine, since I can still play backups that I burnt previously. So it's not my PS2 or chip... unless some new copy protection came out, which everyone refuted...

Thanks!

They do, but over a super-long time if they are looked after properly. More than likely, it's the PS2 laser...

Yeah, I agree, The fact that the old backups still load but new ones from the same batch of media dont seems strange. If you cant find another PS2 to test with try different media. It could be your current batch of media got damaged some way.
