Laquer

ok i have a version 9. and i have no idea what a laquered up VIA point looks like, when i look at my via points, they just look like a copper colour. why are people saying scrap until you see copper when i already see it?

Sometime the copper is visible, sometimes it isnt. The VIA's are coated with a thin clear coat of laquer, Gently scrape the via's until they are bright and shiny. Then attach the wires.

Some do n’ some don’t. Most of the ones I’ve seen do not have the green lacquer on the VIA’s. Here in Canada, the only ones I’ve seen with it are some 50010’s ( V9’s with network adapter). It’s no big deal either way, I’ve never had a problem doing them.

ok great now im really confused. green or clear? when i look on an old hardrive i have there is green laquer on it, which is not the case on my v9 ;\

its copper. Get a shaving blade or something, n gently scrap it off.

The laquer is clear. Sometimes, the green PCB covers the VIA. Either way, scrape the VIA very gently with a Fibre Glass Pencil and eventually you'll see bright, shiny copper. This is what you need to flux and solder the wire to... :)

The lanquer is coat that covers the board to prevent a short circuit. Remember that current is running throught the board and humidity, water or any conductive substance will short out your board. The reason you scrape it off is to make a good contact when you solder.

lol ok well, i think i just did the most ghetto VIA install anyone has done. one wire stuck to the via no prob, so i connected it to the chip, the rest of the 3 wires. i just stuck it in the whole, slapped electrical tape on it and tested it with a multi meter.

with the multi meter i tested one chip leg point and a point on the matrix, it seems there is full connection. lol.

so if i tested the chip leg while the wires are on the vias, and it made a good connection... must mean there is no laquer on mine.

That's gonna cause problems dude, if you can't do them, get someone who can to do them...
