In search of a new mod... suggestions?
Hello All,
I just bought a new XB for my girlfriend (YAY! I've converted her into an avid gamer!). My dilemna at the moment is finding a relatively easy-to-install solderless mod. A year or so ago, I installed an X2.3b Lite[+] in my box. Fairly easy. Really easy actually. Is there anything comparable to that, maybe the X2.6 w/Xapter? Even better would be if anyone knew of a reseller that still carried the X2.3B Lite[+]. Thanks in advance folks! |
$50 is ok, as long as he actually installs a chip, and has a disable switch for it.
Alot of installers will take advantage of the customers unknowledge, and do something called a "TSOP" flash. Which flashes your onboard bios of the xbox, and costs $0 other than the cost of solder, and the memcard if they don't have one. It renders xbox live completely useless on any xbox's newer than a v1.1, and 1.0/1.1's only work if the installer chooses to add a switch and do an extra 2 mins of work. Then they give you your xbox, but only after they steal your eeprom and sell it to someone who was banned from live for $10. Installing a chip can take less then 15 minutes for me, and that includes opening the xbox. Heating the soldering iron is what kills time, about 10 mins for that alone, so 5 to do the rest. |
If you have a modded xbox, a copy of the game 007:AUF and a memcard, then you could do a tsop mod as long as your girlfriend will never go on xbl. The only thing you need to do is solder 4 points (solder 2 points together, one set on the front, and on on the back of the mobo). And by soldering together, I mean touching the board with solder in 2 places very quickly. Bridging them together.
