I think he means that he lost the key written down physically, but it is still on his computer in the registry. Sounds to me like he wants to know how to find it, or where on his PC it is.

That is exactly it, i lost it physically and it still in my pc, i need to retrieve it, i looked into the registry but can find it, is there a program or something to retrieve it?? tns... |
As far as I know it's impossible now, every Blizzard game is like this. A long time ago I found a program that you could use to get your key, what you had to do was run it RIGHT after you click 'login' to battle.net and it showed you the key, it was sort of hard to use, took a few tries but then it stopped workin in the next patch. Not sure if it's still possible to do anything like that now.

Simple Sniff. Run a packet sniffer and find the key when connecting to bnet (it WAS not sure if it still is sent unencrypted) consult your EULA sniffing starcraft packets may be illegal.
Also if you simply take the starcraft folder along with a .reg of what it puts in the registry on a secure backup, then you shouldn't have to reinstall. Unless of cource you were reinstaling because of a problem. (again check the EULA making a copy of the program other then in memory may be illegal). |
It's called Broodwar CDKey Grabber:
http://www.scindex.com/downloads/?fileid=79 After hitting the Multiplayer/Battlenet login, alt-tab and run this program. It will tell you what the key is. HOWEVER, this program will only work up to version 1.10, and the current Starcraft version is 1.11 |
Isnt the most obvious answer, CONTACT TECH SUPPORT! ?
|
Blizzard would know the location of the CD key.

So do I, actually. The CDKey gets dumped into the Starcraft.mpq file. Problem is that the file is encoded. Even after using some MPQViewer programs you still can't see the CDKey listing. When Battle.net loads it decodes this file, and that's when the above program I listed has a chance to see it.
Now, I agree though, call tech support. They might actually be able to give you your key. B.net support is able to read your key when you log onto Battlenet, and you might get a nice enough techie to help you out, and if not they may give you a new key if you can prove you own the originals. If that fails, go buy a new copy. The game is dirt cheap now.. and I do mean DIRT CHEAP, so it's not too hard on the wallet to replace it. |
well tnx a bunch for all your answers guys, but my problem was that i couldnt run the game cause it kept giving me an error woulndnt load but non the less I found my Original Cd-key :) , im up and running now, tnx again..
