Broken PS2

I have a PS2 that's been sitting in a cupboard for months, that has a rather major problem ...

I attempted to install a PS2 Network Adaptor when they were first released, the PS2 "froze up" on the software install & I had to restart it.
Since then the things never worked, It powers up O.K, but when you press the eject button the disc tray flies out at warp speed & sounds like it still wants to open further & the tray won't close until you power off.

If anyone's interested I have taken a video of the problem it's @ http://www.adamrmoore.com/downloads/ps2_problem.avi (4mb)

I have googled until I can google no more & can't seem to find anything like it ... Any ideas are appreciated ... If not, it's going on ebay! :)

I should also mention that it's NEVER been modded or pulled apart at all.

While having the warranty seal intact is a good selling point, you could take it apart and try disconnecting the battery to reset the memory. Possibly there is a way to do this without taking it apart but I can’t remember. I know I’ve done it a couple times before and after a reset you get the small PS logo and it goes straight into the setup, something like that, it’s been a wile and my memory’s not to good. Also posting the model number is very important (SCPH 3000X or 3900X…) 3000X battery is easy to get as it’s on the side of the CD drive where the newer ones are on the mobo requiring complete disassembly.

Maybe better just to sell it and again, post the Model #, that’s my major peeve with ebay parts systems. Most people don’t realize how important posting the model # is.

That is classic. I'll have to save this video for my vaults. I have seen that problem only a few times, and each time is was because of solder bridges. But since you said its never been opened and never modded I'm unsure as to what the problem could be, unless some foreign object got in there some how and is causing the problem.

I love how you can hear the worm gear slipping on the worm gear shaft and making that zziinngggg noise like one of those pocket bikes going down the road. This cant be good for the plastic worm gear.

Do you get anything on the screen when this is happening? Like does it al least go the to browser screen?

Holy crap! That is big time screwed up.

Wowzer!! That seems funny yet sad. You should show the avi clip on Playstation's official forums and see what they have to say, r e-mail teach support, with the avi and they might know what it is and beacuse the warrenty label is intact they could fix it up..?

lol ottoman. Good one and what an expesive cigarette lighter/ toaster my deck was. :D :D :D
With some of the decks out there that are sooooo bad I wonder if Sony's violating any child labor laws and having 5 year olds design and build. :D Let's just hope the kindergarden crew is not working on the ps3. :D :D :D :D :D

Well, most of their sh*t is made in China where the workers weekly wages would be pocket change to us.

You gotta give it up for these working poor countries, think how much it might cost is it was manufactured in a wealthy country with unionized labor. And forget your 99 cent stores!! Handmade Crochet Doilies, 20-40 hours labor = 99 cents retail, what a world!!
