Fuse problems.

Okay look at this attached picture, notice the white Fuse. Now look to the thing to the left, inside the big red circle. It's labeled PS1 like the rest of the fuses. Is it a fuse? Are you sure? Are you really sure? Cause one on the ****ing planet sells these things. They all say, OH just get the white one, it will work. The white one is 9 times too big!

Can someone with a v4 board tell me this is actually a fuse or not? Every place that sells fuses sells the big white one, and it WILL NOT fit where PS1 goes.

Thanks.

See under the white Fuse it says "F1", well that stands for fuse one. Now see where is says PS1 that is also a fuse and i do beleave the PS stands for power supply and the 1 is from the power supply area #1 n the mother board. So yes they are both fuses!!!! If PS1 is blown you can get them HEERREE!!!!!

I think that was a different member. The one you are thinking of is downwardspiral if i remember correctly. I could be wrong.
It was the one who bought the ps2 from a friend or something like that.
@frito, werent you the one who sold it to someone else?

spedmetal 18-08-2004 21:39

@CGL Oh yes thats right, sorry Frito.

crazygamelover 18-08-2004 21:41

yeah it was either donwardsipral or jpunisher. ;)

Acually i do remember you telling both of them on 2 separate threads about some type of fix.

JPunisher 19-08-2004 08:39

I was one of them. Sorry, I'm new to soldering and I rather be sure of something then to be sorry later for not asking someone who is experienced. I didn't mean to bug you.

Frito 19-08-2004 08:50

I actually asked here before but everytime I asked about it they said just use the big white ones because they'll work if they don't fit. :P

Thank you very much spedmetal for the link. :) I'm ordering as we speak!

Links like this would be good in the Ultimate sticky

:p lol, no problem JP! Spedmetal is very much qualified to answer your question in regards to the soldering aspects. His reputation speaks for itself. ;) All you have to do is trust.
Key word "Trust", is not an easy task but fear not, he is trust worthy, as with most of the forum members. We try to help you, not mislead you. :)
I hope you guys get the fuse delema sorted soon. I look forward to some good news for a change in this regard. :D Hopefully!
Getting the fuse is one thing, putting it in is another.
Good luck to both of you guys and keep us posted.

Alright guys! Here's an update! I did it!

As expected, the fuse from Tomek's did not fit!

Also, he scotch-taped the fuse to his inkjet printed bill and folded the power cable i orderd which now has a permanent crink in it. Yup, last time I order from there.

Anyway, the Fuse did not fit on it, or even close to the spot where it should go. So rather than just soldering it closed I made a couple very tiny jumper wires.

Here's a pic. Sorry for the crappy quality, only had a webcam handy.

PS2 works now btw.

Uhh.. upload not working.

lufcfan 02-09-2004 15:27

Great to hear you have it all sorted :D

TylerDurden 02-09-2004 16:17

I wanna see a pic.

Well it’s not a perfect world we live in. The fuse he sells is not a direct replacement if that’s what you where expecting. But it does have the values close to the original fuse and its so damn close to the same size as the original that all I have had to do was scrape a little of the enamel off next to the original solder pads for the original and it fit perfect.

Also the ribbon cable comes from Sony with the fold in it as that’s how it fits under the top of the case lid, so don’t blame that on Tomek as its suppose to be that way.

TylerDurden 02-09-2004 21:50

I still wanna see some pics.

Actually he doesn't sell Sony cables, he makes just buys bulk ribbon cable and makes them from what it looks like. It was creased because of the corner of his hand-written envelope. :)

Anyway, I forgot my camera again so I'll just upload the crap webcam version.
