Deus EX - Invisible War

Any ideas how to combine the two CD's onto one DVD?

Is there a way to put more than one game with multiple CD's on a single DVD for later installation? I'd like to archive (Box up) my games with multiple CD's and put them on DVD's.

Thanks,

Sko

yeh of course you can do it. i've done this with a few games lately. although doing it with Deus Ex: Invisible War isnt going to save you much space.

just make a folder on your hard drive and copy all the files from all the disks of the game into the same folder. its best to do disk 1 *last* as it will have the autorun files and menus etc that you will need to use, and you'll want to overwrite any that have come from the other disks.

then burn it to DVD and give it a shot. should work with most games. use a program such as Magic ISO to create an image of the DVD first, then mount it in Daemon tools or whatever to test it, so that you dont waste any DVDs in the event that it doesnt works.
some games may ask you to browse to a directory part way through installation, thats no problem, just point it to the correct place on the DVD. some (like the recent case of Doom 3) actually ask for the disks and check the volume titles so you've got to edit the install file, which is a simple job.

so far i've done this with Enter the Matrix, Secret Weapons Over Normandy, Knights of the Old Republic, XIII, Thief Deadly Shadows, Splinter Cell 1 & 2, Gothic 2, Dungeon Siege Legends of Aranna, all successfully. i also tried Mafia but that wouldnt work and i couldnt figure it out.

i used to have the USA version of DE:IW on 2 CDs, when it came out in the UK i got the DVD version here. i compared the files of the 2 versions and they were so similar that i see no reason sticking the 2 USA CDs together wouldnt work. remember to stick the patch(s) and crack(s) on the DVD for convenience

Excellent, I'll give 'er a try this weekend. What's this I keep reading about in regards to the custom .MSI files and such?

I'm trying to make Doom III fit on one DVD. No such luck yet.

dont know whats about messing around with .msi's

if a game uses the install shield setup routine (and nearly every game does!) i simply copy all the additional data (from cd 2 - cd x) into the main directory of cd 1.

then write an image with nero (recording device -> image writer) and test it. always worked for me.

yeh eagle thats exactly what i said, *most* games do just work but

Eagle and red dragon

Hey im kinda new here...

Eagle with doom3 you just copied all contents from cd 2 and cd 3 to cd 1's directory and used nero. I have nero express and I was wondering what exactly I have to do in nero to get write the image are you talking about converting it to an iso? I dont see recording device or image writer.

Also as far as modifying the install shield can you explain how you edit the file Red dragon.

Any help would be appreciated thanks guys.

you'll have to switch from nero express to the 'classic nero' interface. then create a new dvd-compilation. drag the content of cd1 in there. then just copy the .pk4 files from the other cds into the directory \Setup\Data\base\
this will leave you with 6 pk4's with a total size of 1.44GB.

on the upper part you will see a pull down menu, from there choose image recorder. then burn the compilation to an .nrg image file. mount that image in any virtual drive and it should install fine without the need for swapping discs.

Thnx

I was able to use Nero smartstart and make a bootable disk then do basically what you told me....save to .nrg and mount virtual drive install. It then began to install and asked for disk 2. I thought i would have to do something else ,but i was able to use the cd2 bin when it asked for cd2 same with cd3. Thanks for all your help allowing me to finally play doom 3. :D
