Doom 3 REALODED crack must be flawed.
 

I have a legal version of Doom 3, and I don't have to use the crack.

However, I like cracks simply because I hate using CDs.

So, I tested the Doom 3 crack and found out that it causes problems.

With the cracked .exe, your DoomConfig.cfg file does not get updated properly. If you set the video settings to HIGH for example - it will not! It will only change resolution, SAY THAT settings are on HIGH, BUT the acctual DommConfig.cfg will have the entry IGNORE HIGH QUALITY = 1.
There is no way to change your video settings properly unless you go back to the original .exe OR manually edit the DoomConfig.cfg file in your Doom3/base directory.

So, I think there should be a better crack coming up soon.

The cracks been available for over a week. If it was flawed like you say so, then I'm sure a proper would have come about asap. I would not listen to IRC 'whispers' that much. ;)

Maybe your hardware just does not cut it in order to get the High Quality settings?

Not sure about whispers, but I surely know that when I use the crack - DoomConfig.cfg is NOT updating. I tested myself. When I use the original - it updates fine. Its just that LOW settings and HIGH are not THAT much of a difference. I found out by looking at textures on the marine's hands and I was like OMFG - they are very low resolution, but I am playing on HIGH, with all settings tunred up. I go in Config and see the IGNORE HIGH SETTINGS = 1. I set it to 0, re-enter the game, reset to HIGH, and then exit. DoomConfig.cfg reset IGNORE HIGH SETTINGS = 1 again!

I get the original .EXE, use it, update settings to HIGH, exit, check DoomConfig.cfg and WOAH - IGNORE HIGH SETTINGS = 0, and textures are much higher resolution!

It must be special protection against cracking that was missed.
No IRC whispers. Tested myself.

works fine for me. had it about a week, using the reloaded no cd crack since i got it, have changed settings a few times, cfg file has the last modified date as yesterday when i cranked up the resolution and contains the entry IGNORE HIGH SETTINGS = 0.

how come u cant modify the cfg with the crack but with the original exe u can?

Checked mine yesterday, no difference whether I'm using the original or the crack. .cfg file changes only when I make a change.

for the HIGH video settings a graphics card with 512MB VRAM is *required* !
I doubt you have one of those.

oh yes they incorporated support for 512mb video cards (i dont see how it can possibly fully support them as there arent any yet) but supposedly if/when you get a 512mb card it will detect the extra graphics memory and give you the option of using extra extra extra high settings and quality textures

theoreticly, u could put 2 256mb graphs card into the same pc, dunno if that would do the job of a 512 tho.

Thats for ULTRA and not required, dude. You can have a 128mb card, and select ULTRA. R3x0 series cards will run it fine, BUT you are going to get stutter once in while because there is not enough of video memory.

The .exe is what modifies DoomConfig.cfg through the game. For me, if its cracked, it won't modify things completely, only resolution. If its not, then it will modify everything properly.

Nvidia are introducing SLI architecture which allows TWO GPU's to be linked together in the same system running on the PCI Express bus, so you could have 512mb AND using TWO GPU's have a significant boost in graphics processing :)

HIGH setting needs 256mb Video RAM not 512mb! You can also unpack the 5 pakxxx.pk4 files to help texture loading between areas, but you need an extra 3GB HD space :eek:

Where extract and dose it realy works? :)

extract them right where they are already, Doom 3/base
just need winrar, right click and select 'extract here'
obviously you'll need to delete, or move the pakxxx.pk4 files from the base directory or the game will just use them as normal

does it work? well the game still works and doesnt complain. theoretically it should make level loading quicker as the files are already extracted so it saves processor activity on extracting them as they're needed. however in practice i didnt notice much difference. perhaps only a few seconds.

one problem (i've heard this but not tried it myself) is that this doesnt work for multiplayer. you'll need to move the pakxxx.pk4 files back. this could be bogus info
