V9 install troubleshooting
Hello All. Been lurking here for quite some time and never needed to ask for help until now. I've chipped and repaired quite a few ps2s but this one I can't seem to figure out.
I installed a messiah 2 1.33b. This is only the second V9 i've done and had no trouble with the first. It will boot a backup (cd or dvd) no problem upon initial power on. The problem i'm having is that once the unit is on for two or three minutes it won't boot any backups again. If I disconnect the power and let it sit for a while it will boot again. At first I thought maybe I had a cold solder joint causing the issue but i've been over every connection multiple times and don't see any issues. I performed the romeo mod last night and its still doing the same thing. My question is does this sound like I have a connection issue or maybe just the laser needs calibrating. This ps2 is brand new and only used during install testing so i doubt the laser had a chance to get damaged. Thanks for any suggestions. |
i would think laser if ya checked all points.
v9s have gotten really nasty bad as of late. |
do the romeo mod. It sounds like its overheating u sure u pluged the fan back in and nothings blocking the air flow?

Yes as stated in my original post I have done the romeo mod. Didnt seem to help. I'm gonna recheck the points one more time and then start adjusting the laser. Thanks anyway.

The M2 it self might be to blame. Its very seldom that the mod chip can actually be the cause of a problem like this, but the mod chip might be getting over heated or something is interfering with the chips out put signals after the unit has warmed up. Is it possible for you to post a picture of your work?

yea i think it was charlie or otto who had the same problem.
Try getting a new mod and keep the m2 for a 1/8 install |
I agree with Sped, its most likely a heat issue.

I hate to do brand new PS2’s out of the box. I’d much rather do a V9 that’s been used, broken in and proven itself for a month or at least a few weeks. With Sony’s rep, you never know what kind of junk you might get out of the box.
