Yes ,i have read the stickie's but just to clarify one thing before i waste hrs attempting to back up,from the sticky post's i have learned much,thank you but, as a newbie with 3 young boys who hassle me every chance they get about PS2 games i must ask :Is it at all possable to play a backed up copy in a console that DOES NOT have a mod chip?

no, unless you use swap magic trick, I would advise a Mod-Chip. Contact me for info on chipping if you wish

Its possible but not advised, buy a modchip, if you need it installed contact Shadowknyght. He's in australia and does great work.
