Back-ups Not Booting

I have made backups of some new releases such as Driver 3, Spiderman 2, Red Dead Revolver, and Pirates - The Legend Of The Black Kat. I followed Dudes guide, as I have done previously, and have had no trouble in the past but this time I have big trouble. The games aren't booting up at all, they go onto the Microsoft screen and then don't boot or anything from there. Have I missed something?Should I be doing something different or changing or missing file/s out? Someone please help im really stuck on this one. Thanks guys!

Hi

What Mod do you have?
What Media are you using? (Ritek dye reccomended)

Try using a program called Craxtion to patch the media checks in the xbes.

Also, try using Dvd2xbox and see if that works.

iv got an xecuter 2 lite mod chip i think. I have a +R Dvd Burner, not sure if that makes any difference? Im using the same media as I have been doing since i strarted making backups. I will get and try the software that you recommended. Any more ideas on what I could try? Thanks agian

I personally use craxtion to make an iso of the game then alcohol 120% to burn the iso and haven't had a coaster to date. If you want a tutorial on how I do it, pm me your email address and I'll send it on.

I dont have a problem with Alcohol, yet i personally use Record Now Max for backups.

You mention +R burner, make sure you use -Dvdr if your burner is dual format.
Also, if its a 8x burner try burning @ 4x or below. Slower write speeds are reccomended in my opinion. I still write Cdr's @ 8x or below at times :)

i use record now max and never make any coasters i also use dvd+r and they work well on mt xbox but not on some other ones using fujifilm disks

iwillrace 22-07-2004 18:27

what does this mean (Ritek dye reccomended) i guess this is a dvd-r brand but what does dye mean

Mark_17 22-07-2004 20:07

Iv only got a +R burner and it has worked fine in the past. I write the backups at x4. So i think everything should be ok in that part of making the backup. Does anyone know if there is any patch files or files on the game that I should be missing out when i burn them? I thought it might of been my laser been dirty so i got a cleaning kit and cleaned it, and they still dont boot, but all the others i have done before still do. I have also tried backing up Uefa Euro 2004 and this loads past the first uefa logo screen and then freezes on the black loading screen. This has got me confused. I seem to be having trouble with the newer releases as a pose to the older ones, should i be doing something different? Thanks again for all help so far guys ! :)

You could try updating your bios to the x2 4981.06 as this will get past the media check in all the newer games yo mentioned. If you use craxtion however, it will patch your games for you to get past the media check.

Ritek is the brand of media. They make dvd-r,+r etc. The dye is where the information is stored on the bottom of the disk. Ritek is generally the best quality and most popular media to use.

Ritek dye is a very deep purple color. These type of discs are highly reccomended, as every type of dvd player and console, etc is compatible with these type of discs. PS2 consoles especially have trouble reading dvd-rs that have a light colored write surfaces, yet if a ritek is used you can guarantee that it will be able to read it.

However, the Xbox is capable of reading these type of discs better than PS2, yet it can also depend on what model of drive you have. For example, Samsung and Philips read cdr-s but the Thomson can't.

This site sells Ritek discs:

It wont be patches you need, yet not sure about Uefa 2k4 as that is a EA title, the patch would normally be a HD fix to enable you to play from HD. I have backups of the others you mentioned and they all work fine. Try Dvd2xbox latest version and updating the bios. If that works and you can play from HD, then try copying the contents of the game to your PC via Ftp and burn using the data method or Iso.

If that fails, you then know its a problem with your burner or discs, even though you have used them previously.

Mark_17 23-07-2004 14:47

I have just tried backing them up again, using craxtion and alcohol 120%. Spiderman 2 has been successful, where as Uefa 2004 loads past the black loading screen and onto a white screen with nothing on then freezes. As for Driver 3 and Red Dead Revolver they are still doing the same as before. I will try the method that was used in the previous thread and see where that leads, but in the mean time if anyone has got any more ideas please get in touch, thanks!

Do you have a larger hard drive in your box or are you using the original?

If you do have a larger hard drive then what HANS_COBBO suggested is the way to go. That's the way I back my games up. First, copy the game to your hdd using dvd2xbox v.5.8 then ftp the contents of the game folder to a folder on your pc. Then make an iso with craxtion and burn with alcohol. I've never had a problem that way and I have a successful backup of Red Dead Revolver. Hope that helps.

I have the original hard drive in my xbox, I copied the files across to my pc hard drive last night using evolution x and ftp. Then I copied them back to the xbox and booted it from the hard drive and works fine but when I try to copy to a disk it is not successful. Any ways I can do this?? Its ok booting it from my xbox hard drive but it uses all my space.
