What brand of discs are you using? The thing with Sony is that they only support Major brands of discs.

i use bulkpaq but i have used bulkpaq 4 a long time but i can't get the ones i normally use anymore.surely it has something 2 do with the burner not the disks but i don't know a lot about this so i'm probably wrong.

Trust me I had a Sony drive and I know very well how they react with certain discs.

Maybe this has something to do with it.

yes but they r still bulkpaq disks

It is possible that the new discs are using a different dye or even making them a bit more wobbly which Sony drives hate.

Do you have a lite-on drive or a sony? The liteon drive will burn at the media's max speed no matter what you set it to.

Well if you do indeed have a Sony you can wait for a firmware release that will set you straight for more dvd media. Or you can get different media, check on Sony's site for compatability. Ooor you can get another writer. Pioneer works with a lot of media and is highly recommended.
