Xbox games wont boot
 

Ok heres the problem, i hire games to play cos i dont have many games yet, and it seems it doesnt matter wat game it is or anything i even had the video store clean the cds, basicly i go launch game from the menu part that has all the programs like hdd loader n stuff and it will try to load it it hangs on a black screen for 2-5 mintues sometimes and then returns back to the menu , sometimes when i launch the game from the msdashboard it will try and play hangs on the black screen and then returns to the exolutionx menu or sometimes it will just freeze on the msdashboard screen, have had the games i hired cleaned by the video store, ive allso made sure the date settings are correct i mean everyone knows when u hire a game its scratched to hell but like i said they cleaned it and yet my backup games and backup music and orignal music cds work, sorry if i reapted anything in this post but im trying to provide as much info as i can

well, most of the time cleaning a cd with many scratches on it isn't enouph. The game is probably scratched beyond recognition.

yea but my scratched music cds both orignal and backup ones work, so i dont think it could be the cd's that much
as for the hired games from the video shop the video shop used the buffer machine that removes scratches and even though they had a little few scratches they should of worked cos i like i said above my music cds have more scratches on them

ok so:

this one game you 'hired' (im assuming u meant rented or bought used) isnt working cuz its scratched. this could be because:

A. its scratched bad enough for it not to be read by the xbox.
B. theres a prob with ur dvd drive
C. u got rid of the normal ms dash and just have linux
D. theres an actual problem with the software on the disk


options B and C are out, B. because you can play audio cds and C. because you can play backups. so its either A or D. D sounds ridiculous, but i bought a game from blockbuster (unreal championship) and it had no scratches at all. it wouldnt play in my xbox though. i took it back and the guy said it had prob been exposed to a magnet or something.(i thought that magnets deleting disks was a rumor, but whatever :confused: ) what you can try doing is loading up a file manager (if you use avalaunch or unleashx use the built in one, if not i highly recommend boXplorer) and going to the D drive. if there really arent that many scratches, you should see the files on the disk. if the data was somehow destroyed, you will not see the files (or at most some of the files. if it was hanging on the black screen, assuming the data was somehow destroyed,it was missing AT LEAST the default.xbe file)

once youve looked at D:\ post back here and tell us what u found.

basicly, scratched audio cdr cds work but orignal scratched xbox games dont work does it sound like the laser

no, it sounds like the game is scratched too much. Not every disk is exactly the same. Just because you have a scratched music cd that plays, doesn't mean all other scratched disks will. If it doesn't play, and others do, it is because the disk is scratched too much or defective in some other way. You probably won't get it to load unless you have a sammy drive, or hacked PC sammy drive.

i have a samsung drive, wat do u mean by hacked though?

hmm, well, if you have a samsung drive, then the reason has to be because it is scratched too much. There is a specific PC drive that can be flashed with new firware to play in the xbox. It reads all media like a PC would, with no limitations.
